Imagine being left behind as your family packs up and moves away, completely forgetting about you. For one senior cat, this heartbreaking scenario became a reality when his owners abandoned him after moving out of their home.
Luckily, a kind neighbor named Alex stepped in to rescue the poor feline.
Alex first noticed the 12-year-old ginger cat wandering around her neighborhood. He seemed lost and helpless which worried her, so she decided to care for him and soon uncovered the sad truth behind his situation.
Unlike some cats that manage to adapt to life outdoors, this one was struggling. Alex was determined to help him, so she began feeding him outside first… As she shared in an interview:
“We fed him outside for a week, and another neighbor told us he had been left behind when the neighbors left. He wasn’t thriving outside at all, like some cats can. So we brought him in.”
When the vet checked his microchip and contacted his former owners, it became clear that they had intentionally abandoned him.
Determined to give the senior cat a better life, Alex decided to adopt him and named him Red. Sharing his story on Reddit, she warmly welcomed him with the words, “Welcome to your new home, Red!”
Red’s story touched many hearts online. People couldn’t believe he had been left behind, but they were grateful to Alex for stepping up and giving him a second chance.
“Imagine a feline that has bonded with you for over a decade and you still have the guts to leave them to fend for themselves.”
“I can’t imagine how anyone could leave a cat after 12 years,” one commenter said. Others expressed their appreciation, calling Alex an ‘angel’ for rescuing Red,
“Thank you so much for taking care of this handsome fella. Hope everything turns out great for him.”
“Some people are monsters and some people are also angels for having a heart and took them in. You will be fine Red!”
Thankfully, Red is adjusting to his new home. Though he spends most of his time sleeping, Alex says he’s very charming and funny when awake. She also shared that Red has already visited the vet and is slowly getting used to her other cat.
While it’s heartbreaking that Red was abandoned, it’s heartwarming to know that he now has a loving home where he’ll be cherished in his golden years.
