LA Woman Finds A Dog Curled Up On A Gravel Near Train Tracks And Decides To Step In

Every once in a while, a dog comes along who leaves a permanent mark on your heart. For seasoned rescuer Rosario Ortiz, that dog was a tiny, scruffy Pomeranian.

One day, as Rosario walked through her Los Angeles neighborhood, her attention was caught by a little figure near the train tracks. It was a small, off-white Pomeranian, motionless and seemingly invisible to everyone else.

Curled up tightly on the gravel, he looked as if he wanted the world to pass him by.

He had no collar, no one calling for him, and no place to call home.

Beside him sat a large metal container that had become his only shelter, a cold, hard “bed” in the middle of nowhere.

It was heartbreaking to see such a tiny dog surviving like that, holding on as best he could.

Rosario immediately reached out to fellow rescuer Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29.

Even though it took Suzette more than an hour to arrive, the little dog hadn’t moved an inch. He stayed huddled in his makeshift shelter, too tired or wary to seek anything better.

Suzette brought food and set a humane trap, letting the warm scent drift toward him. At first, it seemed to be working.

But just as the pup cautiously stepped out, a passerby came too close and startled him. In a flash, he bolted down the train tracks.

Determined not to lose him, Rosario and Suzette followed in their cars until he slipped into a fenced-off corner. They quickly set up baby gates to block his escape routes and inched closer, until Rosario was finally able to scoop him into her arms.

The chase was over – he was safe.

Instead of struggling or barking, the little dog, now named Marshmallow, simply relaxed against her, as though he had been waiting for this moment all his life.

On the drive away from the tracks, he curled up at the back of the crate and fell into a deep sleep. As Suzette later wrote on Facebook:

“The best part was he knew he was safe. He could hardly keep his eyes open and laid all the way to the back of the trap. He didn’t have to live on the railroad tracks or sleep hiding under that trailer ever again. He was rescued.”

Marshmallow was taken straight to Camino Pet Hospital, where he received a warm bath, a full check-up, and the care he had been missing. Soon after, he moved into a loving foster home, where he’s been enjoying every blanket, cuddle, and gentle touch.

Now, he’s a transformed dog, playful, affectionate, and full of life. It’s hard to imagine him once shivering under a metal container in the dirt.

Marshmallow is still waiting for his forever family, but one thing is certain: he will never face the world alone again. No more freezing nights. No more rattling train tracks. No more hiding to feel safe.

From here on, his days will be filled with love, comfort, and everything a dog deserves. His rescue was the beginning of a brand-new life, and the best chapters are still to come.
