Pennsylvania Rescue Cat Is Changing The Way Kids Feel About Wearing Glasses And It’s So Amazing
When Danielle Crull spotted a tiny stray kitten wandering through the woods in Pennsylvania, she thought she was simply saving a life. She had no idea that little rescue would one day help change the way countless children see themselves.
That fragile furball grew up to become Truffles, an adorable cat with a surprisingly big mission. Known for her stylish little glasses, Truffles didn’t just win hearts… she helped build confidence.
Danielle, an optician and owner of A Child’s Eyes, in Mechanicsburg, spends her days helping children feel comfortable wearing their glasses. For many kids, that first pair can feel overwhelming — awkward, different, even embarrassing. But that’s where Truffles comes in.
Because when a child sees a cat proudly rocking her own tiny frames, something shifts. Suddenly, glasses don’t feel so scary. They feel cool and normal.
Now, we all know how kids can feel about doctors, especially when it comes to eye exams. Whether they have serious eye conditions or need surgery, it can be a stressful experience.
That’s where Truffles steps in as a furry hero. As Danielle explains:
“She is literally magical with little kids. It takes me at least half an hour to try and get to know them so they realize I’m not something to be afraid of, and Truffles will come strutting out from the back as if she knows exactly when I need her help.”
Truffles is not just a cat with glasses. She often hops up next to children being examined, tilting her head to let Danielle put a pair of glasses on her.
The transformation in the children’s mood is immediate, fear turns to laughter, and suddenly, trying on glasses becomes the coolest thing ever.
Danielle shares on Instagram:

Truffles absolutely loves wearing glasses. She sometimes even dozes off with them on, refusing to let Danielle take them off.
Each day, she selects a new pair and proudly wears them. Danielle adds:
“If she had thumbs she would do it herself, she actually loves it! She can take them off whenever she wants, but a lot of times she chooses not to.”
But Truffles’ work doesn’t stop at helping kids get comfortable with glasses. She also raises awareness about amblyopia, also known as “lazy eye.”
This condition occurs when one eye’s nerve pathways don’t connect properly with the brain, causing it to work less efficiently than the other. The treatment often involves covering the stronger eye to strengthen the weaker one. Danielle explains:
“Wearing an eye patch isn’t easy for kids. One thing is glasses, but eye patches are a whole different thing. It’s more worry, more fear, more confusion.”
Truffles helps ease the way for children who need to wear an eye patch by proudly wearing one over her glasses, showing kids that it’s okay to wear one. It’s made a world of difference for many kids.
Danielle has received hundreds of messages from parents around the world, expressing gratitude for Truffles’ help. As she says:
“Truffles wearing a patch is a very big deal. She makes kids feel more confident about wearing their patches, and that’s something I am very passionate about. This makes a real impact in these kids’ lives every day.”
