NY Woman Adopts Rescue Cat Who Refused Litter Box, Then He Surprises Her On His First Day Home
Stray cats struggle on the streets every day, hunting for food, warmth, and a safe spot to sleep. But sometimes, luck comes knocking and gives one of them a chance at a brand-new life.
That was the case for Chris, a clever cat who had clearly had enough of life on the streets.
Rather than waiting for someone to find him, Chris took matters into his own paws. He climbed through a window and into someone’s home, as if he somehow knew his life was about to change forever.

It all began when a kind-hearted woman, who regularly fed the local stray cats in her New York neighborhood, noticed a new face.
This cat, who would later be named Chris, was unlike the other strays. While many cats kept their distance, Chris was incredibly friendly, drawing the woman’s attention right away.
Recognizing his sweet nature, the woman knew she couldn’t let this friendly cat stay on the streets. She contacted Ridgewood Rescue, a local rescue group in New York, who quickly agreed to help him.

The rescue team gathered to catch Chris and bring him to safety. But just as they were preparing to take him in, something incredible happened.
As soon as the woman opened the window, Chris approached and rubbed against it. Then, to everyone’s surprise, he calmly stepped inside the home, as if he had known all along that a brighter future awaited him.
He wandered around the apartment, sat down, and appeared completely at ease, as if he had found his true home. The rescuers gently scooped him up for a thorough check-up.

To everyone’s surprise, Chris was in good health, though he was extremely hungry. A quick check revealed that he had already been neutered but didn’t have a microchip.
Given his friendly demeanor and the fact that he had been neutered, the rescuers suspected that Chris must have had a home at some point in his life.

Determined to reunite him with his family, the team began making posters and asking around the neighborhood. However, after weeks of searching, no one came forward to claim Chris, which, sadly, is all too common.
The team decided to place him in foster care while they continued their search for a permanent home.
Chris thrived in foster care, finally enjoying the meals, love, and comfort he had missed while living on the streets. But, as the days went by, the foster family began to notice an issue: Chris was having trouble using the litter box.

They tried every possible solution, but nothing seemed to work. However, they refused to give up on him.
One rescuer suggested considering a barn-cat adoption, thinking that Chris might have been used to living as an indoor-outdoor cat and could be more comfortable with outdoor access.

Fortune smiled on Chris when a woman from a semi-rural area reached out to the rescue, hoping to adopt a cat.
Her previous cat, who had lived both indoors and outdoors, had passed away, and she was looking for a new companion.
After talking with her, the rescue team felt confident that this would be the perfect fit for Chris. The woman was even willing to accept the possibility of a few litter box accidents while Chris adjusted.

The woman and her husband traveled over five hours to meet Chris, and when they finally arrived at their new home, something unexpected happened.
From the very moment he entered his new house, Chris used the litter box without any issues, as though he knew he was exactly where he belonged.
Now, renamed Felix, this once-stray cat has flourished into a happy house cat, thriving in a loving environment with the family he always deserved.
