Dog Climbs Onto Roof In New Jersey And The Reason Leaves Everyone Heartbroken
Fending for himself on the streets of New Jersey, Fiddler was just trying to find a place where he felt safe.
But instead of hiding low to the ground like most strays, he did something no one expected. He climbed onto the roof of a house.
Up there, he paced along the edge, back and forth, like he was searching for something… or someone. Maybe, in his own way, he thought that if he stood high enough, someone would finally look up and see him.
And amazingly, that’s exactly what happened. A passerby noticed the lonely pup on the rooftop, took a quick photo, and shared it on Facebook.
That single moment of kindness changed Fiddler’s life forever.
Not long after, the compassionate team from Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge rushed to the scene. When they spotted him, their hearts melted.
Even though Fiddler was scared and exhausted, he still greeted them with joy, ready to wag his tail, lean into their hands, and soak up every ounce of love he could.
The rescuers spoke gently and moved slowly, making sure he felt safe before bringing him down from his high perch.
From that moment on, everything began to change for him.
It was heartbreaking to see how rough life had already been on such a young dog. Barely a year old, Fiddler looked like he had endured a lifetime of struggle.
His thin frame gave away just how little he had eaten, his ribs showing under a matted and tangled coat. A vet check revealed that he was only 25 pounds and battling a load of hookworms.
The rescue team cleaned and brushed his fur, provided treatment for his worms, and set him up on a careful feeding plan to help him gain strength without overwhelming his fragile body.
With every meal, his eyes seemed to shine a little brighter, and his true personality began to peek through. The rescue shared in a Facebook post:
“Fiddler is pure spirit. He wants to play. To love. To live.”
And that’s exactly what he started to do.
Today, Fiddler is hardly recognizable from the starved little pup on the roof. He’s lanky, silly, and bursting with puppy energy.
He loves running around, playing with other dogs, and basking in every bit of affection he’s given. But even with all the progress he’s made, Fiddler’s story isn’t complete yet.
What he needs now is a forever home with a family who knows that his fluffy coat will take regular care and that he’ll thrive with routine, training, and love.
