NY Rescuers Respond To Call About Struggling Kitten Found In Store, Then Realize She’s Not Alone

Every single day, rescuers step in for animals nobody else notices, giving abandoned strays a second chance at safety, comfort, and love.

One of those groups is Little Wanderers, whose rescuers have helped countless cats survive life on the streets of the Bronx. But one recent rescue ended up being far bigger than anyone expected.

It all began with a call about a tiny tabby kitten inside a Bronx bodega. The little kitten had a badly deformed leg and clearly needed help fast.

But the moment rescuers arrived, they realized this wasn’t only about one struggling kitten. An entire cat family was waiting to be saved.

The bodega had become home to four kittens, born in a rusty box tucked away behind the kitchen.

The rescue team swooped in to save the entire family, including their mom, offering them the care they desperately needed and a chance at a brighter future.

They shared the news of their newest furry additions in a Facebook post:

“The entire family is right here! Introducing mom Elemental and her four offspring; Ember (disabled) tabby girl  Wade, tabby boy Cinder, b&w girl, and Bernie, b&w boy (has a nose splotch). They are all five weeks and adorable little ponies.”

Not long after, the Bronx bodega family was settled into a loving foster home. While the kittens began to thrive almost immediately, their mother struggled with her health.

She was underweight, had a chemical burn on her nose, and showed the visible signs of a difficult life as a stray. The shelter provided her with the essential care she needed to recover.

Once the kittens became stronger, their mother moved to a new home where she could rest and heal, clearly relieved to transition from her demanding role as a mother to a more comfortable life.

Meanwhile, the kittens continued to thrive. They were full of energy, always running and playing. Even Ember, despite her leg issues, didn’t hold back from joining in on the fun.

As it turned out, Ember was born with a shorter leg. Yet, she never let this slow her down. She embraced each day with boundless energy and resilient spirit.

With her three good legs, Ember did everything her siblings did, as the shelter explained:

“Ember was born with a growth deformity that left her leg contracted up and shorter than the rest of her legs. However, that never stops her from getting around! She jumps, climbs, plays, and does everything that all kittens do!”

From the very beginning, Ember and her brother Wade shared a unique bond. Their days were filled with nonstop adventures, and it was clear they understood each other in a way only siblings can.

When it was time to find forever homes for the Bronx bodega kittens, the staff hoped these two would be adopted together, especially after Cinder and Clod had found a home as a pair.

To help make this happen, they created a Facebook post highlighting each kitten’s unique personality.

Ember was described as a “fearless fighter who thrives in the heart of the action,” while Wade was dubbed “the funniest one of them all.”

Each day, the shelter staff held on to the hope that a wonderful family would see just how perfect Ember and Wade were together. Then, the joyous day finally arrived.

A perfect adoption request came through for the siblings, and soon enough, Ember and Wade were placed in their forever home, side by side, surrounded by love and happiness.

What began as rescuing one kitten in need turned into a heartwarming mission that saved an entire family of cats.

Now, each one of them is safe, loved, and cherished in their forever homes, just as they truly deserve.

Isn’t this a purrfectly happy new beginning?!
