California Woman Adopts Her Dream Dog From Craigslist, Then Vet Makes Devastating Discovery

For years, Kailah imagined what it would be like to finally have a Dalmatian of her own. There was something about the breed — the spotted coats, goofy personalities, and unmistakable charm — that had always pulled her in.

Then, one day, the chance she’d been hoping for suddenly appeared. While scrolling through Craigslist, she came across a listing for a Dalmatian named Bobbi. One look at the photo was enough. Kailah felt immediately that this dog was meant to be part of her life.

Not long after, she reached out, finalized the adoption, and drove an hour to pick Bobbi up, believing she was simply bringing home the dog she’d always wanted.

She had no idea that decision would turn into something much bigger than she expected.

When they finally got home to California, Kailah’s whole family was thrilled to meet Bobbi.

They all knew Dalmatians are high-energy dogs, but Kailah was ready for the challenge.

Bobbi quickly became the star of the house. He was full of personality and always ready to play.

After a full examination, Kailah learned that Bobbi wasn’t just dealing with a sting. She had giardia, an intestinal infection caused by contaminated water.

It was a crushing blow. Thankfully, the vet explained that with treatment, giardia could be managed, and Bobbi was immediately started on medication.

Still, the scare left Kailah shaken. Watching Bobbi gulp down that bee had been terrifying enough, but what really shook her was realizing how fragile her new pup’s health could be.

She thought once the giardia was under control, things would settle down, but she was wrong. That moment was only the start of a long, difficult road.

Not long after, Bobbi broke a toe and needed special care. Kailah was at the vet’s office yet again, this time making sure her girl had all the care she needed to heal properly.

Then came the routine spay surgery, which quickly turned into another emergency when she tore her stitches and needed additional treatment.

On top of all this, Kailah learned that Bobbi had allergies that required a very specific diet.

That diet had to be carefully managed: no beef, no turkey. Only chicken, lamb, salmon, duck, quail eggs, and a few vegetables that were safe for her sensitive system. 

All of it added up fast. Between the Giardia diagnosis, the broken toe, the surgeries, and the special food, Kailah realized she had already spent over $10,000 on vet bills and care for her beloved Dalmatian.

It was overwhelming, but here’s the thing: none of it ever made Kailah doubt her choice. Bobbi was her dream dog, and no price tag could ever change that.

Kailah shared her story on social media, and people were touched by how far she was willing to go for her spotted best friend.

Looking back, Kailah says she wouldn’t change a thing. She loves Bobbi with all her heart, and even though the journey hasn’t been easy, she knows they were meant to find each other.

And honestly, if you ask me, Bobbi couldn’t have gotten luckier.
