Georgia Dog Whose Owners Said They Didn’t Want Him Anymore Finds The Perfect Place To Start Over

Found wandering the streets and rejected by his former family, Hendrix was out of time. But one woman’s two-and-a-half-hour drive changed both of their lives forever.

After losing her first dog, one woman found her house had grown uncomfortably quiet.

Life just wasn’t the same without a canine companion padding around the rooms.

She knew she missed the presence of a dog, but she wasn’t sure when she would be ready to open her heart again.

That all changed when she was scrolling through social media and came across a picture of a dog named Hendrix.

Hendrix had been found wandering the streets, completely alone.

When animal control brought him in, they scanned him and found a microchip, which usually means a happy reunion is on the way.

The shelter eagerly contacted his previous owners, hoping they were looking for him.

Instead, the only answer they received was a cold rejection: "We don’t want him anymore."

Out Of Time

Because his family had surrendered their rights over the phone, Hendrix’s situation became instantly dire.

The shelter was full, and the staff made the difficult decision that he would be euthanized that very afternoon.

In the photos posted online, Hendrix looked incredibly confused.

It didn’t seem like he understood what was happening to him, or why he had been left behind.

Seeing that confused face on her screen, the woman couldn’t bear the thought of him being put to sleep.

She immediately got in her car and drove about two and a half hours to meet him.

When she arrived at the shelter, the staff brought him out.

The door opened, and Hendrix came running right toward her with his big head.

A Ten-Second Decision

It only took a moment for her to know exactly what she had to do.

"I made my decision right then," she recalled. "He was coming home with me."

The entire connection happened in about ten seconds, and it was a choice she would never regret.

To her, dogs aren’t objects to ponder over like furniture; they are friends waiting to be found.

The Scars Of His Past

When Hendrix first arrived at his new home, it was clear he wasn’t in good shape.

He was extremely skinny, likely from living on the streets for weeks.

He was also incredibly nervous, flinching at the smallest movements around the house.

One day, her vet pointed out calluses on Hendrix’s elbows, explaining they were likely from sleeping on hard concrete for a long time.

Knowing how much he had suffered, his new mom wanted to give him the most comfortable life possible.

For the first few nights, she made him a nice, soft dog bed to sleep in.

But Hendrix refused to sleep there, repeatedly wandering into her room instead.

Eventually, she started letting him sleep in her bed, and he has slept in the exact same spot every night since.

The most striking thing about Hendrix is how deeply attached he is to his rescuer.

He doesn’t whine or bark; he just quietly comes over and rests his paw on her.

When she deals with her own health issues or feels down, Hendrix is always the first to notice.

He simply walks over, rests his big head on her knee, and stays quietly by her side.

Later on, his mom decided to adopt a second dog so Hendrix could have a companion.

Though she was worried at first, the two dogs became best friends on the very first day.

Since gaining a sibling, Hendrix has started to smile even more.

Looking at him now, his mom sometimes wonders how anyone could abandon such a kind-hearted dog, but she quickly stops looking for answers—knowing that everything happened exactly the way it was supposed to.
