An Uncertain Beginning
When a cattery was shutting down, one tiny kitten was at risk of being left behind.
He didn’t look like the rest of his litter, and his breeders considered him less than ideal.
With unusually large eyes and missing the folded ears his siblings had, the little feline was facing an uncertain future.
But this unique little cat, soon to be named Noodle, was about to prove that being different is sometimes exactly what makes you special.
The cattery workers actually thought Noodle was sick because his eyes looked so unusual. Because he was so different, there was a real fear he might end up at a local shelter.
A Change In Living Arrangements
Thankfully, a kindhearted man decided to take the kitten in before he could be surrendered. When Rebecca started dating Noodle’s dad, she was immediately introduced to the wide-eyed feline.
A few months into their relationship, her boyfriend had to move a few hours away. They decided it would be best for Noodle to stay with Rebecca so he wouldn’t have to endure a stressful move.
Surprisingly, the cat wasn’t bothered by the change in the slightest.
"There wasn’t any period of adjustment for Noodle," Rebecca recalled.
"He was just like, ‘Okay, you’re the one who feeds me now.’"
A Very Special Bond
For the next three years, Rebecca served as Noodle’s primary caretaker. She grew to love his quirky personality and constant companionship.
However, despite her daily devotion, her husband—affectionately known as "Noodle Dad"—remains the cat’s absolute favorite person in the house.

Noodle’s dad is a type 1 diabetic, and the intuitive cat has learned to monitor his health.
Incredibly, Noodle can actually sense when his dad’s blood sugar drops low while he is sleeping.
The Gentle Alert
When he detects a medical issue, Noodle doesn’t panic. Instead, he quietly goes over and lays right next to his dad.
He will then very gently paw at him, trying to wake him up and alert him to the danger.
It is a remarkable talent for a cat who was once dismissed as "not ideal" by his breeders.
His gentle nature during these medical alerts perfectly matches his quiet, unassuming voice.
He is a calm protector who watches over the man who gave him a second chance.
Learning To Speak
Interestingly, Noodle did not know how to vocalize at all when he first arrived. He was a completely silent companion.
Rebecca has four cats in total, including a very chatty feline named Atlas.
By listening to his talkative sibling, Noodle slowly began learning how to meow.
The result is a highly unique sound that Rebecca notes is like he is "meowing in lowercase."
His little voice has been compared to a cow’s "moo" or even a person trying to imitate a cat meowing.
The "Needle" Alter Ego
While he is usually a gentle soul, Noodle does have a grumpy side. His family playfully calls this alter ego "Needle."
This spicy personality comes out when his signature huge eyes squint down and he looks visibly angry.
"Needle" makes his appearance most often when it is time for grooming.
Because he has long fur, he requires regular brushing to stay comfortable and mat-free.
However, he is quick to let his parents know when he has simply had enough of the brush.
Comfort In The Food Bowl
When Noodle feels stressed by brushing or other daily annoyances, he turns to his favorite comfort: food.
He will run straight to his food bowl, acting as if he deserves a snack for his troubles.
Eating is a soothing experience for him, but he prefers not to dine alone.
He loves to be petted while he eats, soaking in the reassurance that everything is okay.
As long as he has his food and his family nearby, all is right in his world.
A Muse For Art And Life
Today, those same big eyes that almost sent him to a shelter are his most cherished feature.
They are incredibly expressive, stretching wide whenever he hears a food bag rumble, spots a toy, or catches a distant sound.
Sometimes, he just stares off into the distance with a funny, vacant expression.
