Each year, countless pets get left behind, thrown into a world that suddenly feels confusing and lonely. That’s exactly what happened to a sweet cat named Red.
This poor kitty was left behind when his family moved away, discarded like an old toy no longer wanted. But, in an unexpected twist of fate, a kind neighbor stepped in to rewrite his story.
Alex noticed Red wandering around the neighborhood, searching for a glimpse of the life he once cherished. The story behind his sad eyes became all too clear, and it broke Alex’s heart to see him suffer, as she recalled in an interview:
“We fed him outside for a week, and another neighbor told us he had been left behind when the neighbors moved. He wasn’t doing well outside like some cats can, so we decided to bring him into our home.”
Determined to reunite him with his former owners, a vet checked the cat’s microchip and called the number on it. The answer was tough to hear: his owners had decided to leave him behind on purpose.
It was truly heartbreaking to hear that this kitty had a family for so many years and that they simply didn’t want him anymore.
Alex, who had quickly grown attached to this gentle cat, decided she couldn’t let him face this alone any longer. So she decided to welcome him into her home.
She named him Red and announced the good news in a Reddit post:
“Welcome to your new home, Red!”
The online community rallied around Red’s story. They expressed their outrage and sadness over his abandonment, as one user said:
“Imagine a feline that has bonded with you for over a decade and you still have the guts to leave them to fend for themselves. Some people are monsters and some people are also angels for having a heart and took them in. You will be fine Red!”

“Imagine having a cat for over a decade and then just leaving them. Some people are heartless.”
There were so many supportive messages praising Alex for taking Red in. People from all around showered her with love for stepping up like a true hero and giving him a second chance, as one commenter said:
“I’m so happy he has you to take care of him in his old age!”
Despite the rough start to his life, Red has begun to flourish under Alex’s care. She’s ensured that he is receiving the proper medical care he needs and is taking her time to introduce him to her other cat, as she shared:
“He has a vet visit this week before we start introducing our other cat to him, so right now he’s staying in my guest room, chilling… He’s been sleeping a lot, but when he’s awake, he’s so charming and funny.”
It’s so uplifting to see how once abandoned cat is now in a loving home where he’ll receive the attention and care he deserves in his golden years. Red’s journey may have begun with sorrow, but thanks to Alex, his new chapter is filled with love.
