It all started when a tiny orange kitten followed Alfredo and Eleonora during their vacation. He was scruffy but sweet, and something about him tugged at their hearts.

But life took a difficult turn when Eleonora fell ill and eventually passed away.
To ensure Vito would still have a loving home, he was taken in by Eleonora’s daughter Silvia, and her partner, Linda.
The two women adored Vito. They noticed his joy in exploring, so they went above and beyond to nurture his adventurous spirit.
To give him the freedom he loved, they installed cat flaps on their doors, allowing him to come and go whenever he pleased.
Shortly after Silvia and Linda married and left for their honeymoon, tragedy struck. Vito had gone missing.
At first, a friend watching over him didn’t worry much because Vito was known for his wandering ways. But after a day and a half, concern grew.
A search led to a devastating discovery: Vito had been in a terrible car accident!
Both of his hind legs were badly crushed. The injuries were so severe that he could barely move.
When they rushed him to the vet, it was clear drastic measures were needed. The vet acted swiftly, assessing the damage and prioritizing what could be done to save him.
One leg had to be amputated immediately to prevent infection and further complications, while they made a valiant effort to save the other.
Every second counted as the team worked tirelessly to stabilize Vito, hoping they could preserve at least part of his ability to move.
Despite their best efforts, the remaining leg began showing signs of necrosis.
The heart-wrenching decision was made to amputate it as well. His moms were heartbroken but refused to give up on him.
Desperate for a solution, Silvia and Linda came across a groundbreaking medical procedure that seemed like a glimmer of hope in this bleak situation.
This innovative approach involved attaching prosthetics directly to the bone, a technique that had given other animals a second chance at mobility.
It was bold, complex, and far from ordinary, but it was exactly the kind of hope they needed.
They learned about a vet who specialized in these procedures, Dr. Massimo Petazzoni, whom they immediately contacted to discuss Vito’s case.
They wanted to know if attempting the innovative surgery, known as Patellar Groove Replacement (PGR), was worth the risk.
Dr. Petazzoni’s response was encouraging and so Vito underwent the surgery.
The surgery was a success, though recovery was grueling. Vito needed constant care, IV fluids, antibiotics, and patience. At first, he couldn’t stand, but his determination never wavered.
One day, Silvia and Linda watched in awe as Vito stood up on his new prosthetic legs!
Slowly but surely, he began walking, then running, and eventually climbing stairs. His resilience was nothing short of miraculous.
Today, Vito is unstoppable. He may not jump as high as other cats, but he doesn’t let that hold him back. He now walks, runs, and explores with the same spirit he had before.
