Illinois Hikers Shocked To Discover The True Identity Of A Mystery Animal Moving In The Leaves

When Carolyn McCabe and her boyfriend, Conor Keeling, hikers from Illinois, set out on their adventure, they never imagined who would cross their path.

While enjoying their hiking through the beautiful greenery of the Chicago area, they suddenly heard unusual sounds coming from the nearby bush.

Curious, they decided to investigate and were surprised to find a mysterious white animal. But once they discovered its true identity, the couple was left in awe.

The Mystery Animal Revealing Its True Identity

The couple continued approaching the mystery animal and once they had a clear view, they were shocked to see a white guinea pig nestled in the leaves.

They had no idea how the guinea pig had ended up there, but they knew they had to help.

The couple then postponed all their plans and embarked on a rescue mission. Carolyn shared in an interview:

“We immediately were like… ‘We have to do something about this.’ He was just so sweet. So it was a very short hike that day.”

The couple assumed that the guinea pig had wandered away from home and gotten lost. They gently picked it up and went door-to-door to see if anyone was missing their pet.

Unfortunately, no one came forward. The couple concluded that the guinea pig had most likely been abandoned by its heartless owners.

Finally, A New Home

Luckily, the couple refused to give up on him. They had no heart to leave him behind, so they took him home with them.

To everyone’s surprise, the little guinea pig instantly felt at home. The couple gave him a bath and provided a cozy place to rest.

They also fed him delicious fruits and vegetables to help him regain strength and recover from the trauma he had endured.

After settling in, the couple decided to name the guinea pig Quinn, after the park where they had found him. 

Quinn was so friendly and lovely, that the couple couldn’t understand how anyone could abandon such a sweet animal.

He quickly adjusted to his new home and enjoyed spending time with his new people. Carolyn added:

“When he first got here, he was a little bit scared. But then, he really opened up and he loved all the fruits and veggies we gave him… He was just running around and having a blast.”

However, their joy didn’t last long because what happened next was totally unexpected.

The Unexpected Twist

Just as everything seemed perfect, Carolyn began coughing and sneezing when around Quinn.

After two weeks, Carolyn realized she was allergic to guinea pigs. Sadly, this meant that she had to say goodbye to Quinn. She was heartbroken, but her allergies were so severe that she couldn’t keep him.

Before saying a heartbreaking goodbye, the couple decided to do everything they could to find Quinn a perfect forever home and make his future bright.

They reached out to one of Illinois’ best animal rescue organizations, One Tail At A Time, and asked for help.

Fortunately, things turned out better than expected. The shelter staff instantly found a perfect family for Quinn. 

They were guinea pig lovers who had recently lost their own guinea pig and were looking for a new one.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Carolyn and Conor said their final goodbye to Quinn and handed him over to his new family.

As difficult as it was, knowing Quinn was in safe hands brought them comfort. Carolyn shared:

“This whole thing was so funny and sweet. He’s in a good place now. It was a happy ending for everybody.”

In the end, everything worked out and everyone got their happy ending – especially Quinn, who truly deserved it.
