Montgomery Team Finds An Abandoned Dog In Park, Then Realizes He Has A Familiar Face

One day, the team at Montgomery County Animal Shelter (MCAS) got an urgent tip about a senior black pup roaming alone in the park.
The rescue crew sped over, hoping to bring the lost pup back to his family. But when they finally reached him, what they discovered was much more heartbreaking than anyone expected.

The dog wore a collar with tags, which proved he once had a home. But sadly, it looked like he’d been left behind by the very people who were meant to care for him.
Then came an even tougher truth: the rescue team recognized him.
This was Rigsby, a 10-year-old dog who had once lived at MCAS. Back then, he’d found a family who promised love and care.

But his “happily-ever-after” wasn’t quite what anyone had hoped for. The team’s hearts shattered all over again.
Once they confirmed his identity, the team contacted Rigsby’s previous owners. MCAS volunteer Madeline shared:
“His owners were called, and they do not want him back. He is the sweetest guy and must be confused about why he’s back at the shelter he was adopted from…”

Even after all he’d been through, Rigsby’s tail wagged with joy when he spotted the rescuers. He stayed sweet, affectionate, and ready for love and attention. Madeline added:
“He’s such an easy dude. I feel so badly for him and hope he can get a second chance for real this time.”
Back at MCAS, Rigsby surprised everyone with the tricks he’d picked up while living with his family, as Madeline shared:
“He is potty trained, has been quiet in his kennel and knows ‘sit’ and ‘shake.’ He’s sharing his kennel with another old man and does very well.”

But then came a new challenge. A thorough medical exam showed Rigsby would probably need a hospice foster home.
Finding a loving place for a senior dog is tough on its own, but a hospice spot? That felt almost impossible.
Then, something amazing happened. A kind-hearted person was out there, searching for a dog just like Rigsby.

MCAS got a call from a Texas group called The Forgotten Pet Advocates (FPA), specifically from a longtime volunteer named Linda. She said:
“I saw this boy come up on the feed, and it was a meant-to-be moment. I knew he was the one.”
The moment Linda laid eyes on Rigsby’s photo, she knew he was the one she’d been hoping to find. She fell for him right away.

Linda didn’t waste a moment. She showed up at the rescue with her own senior dog, Bently, to meet Rigsby. To everyone’s joy, the three of them hit it off right away.
It was clear that they were meant to be together, ready to share their golden years in the best way imaginable.
Linda signed the papers and drove home with a new family member. Because of her, Rigsby got a fresh start and a forever home that’s truly forever this time.

Not long after, Linda shared an update on FPA about how everyone was settling in:
“Rigsby has settled right in perfectly, and Bentley is so happy to have him there! They sleep side by side, and Rigsby just wants to be near both his brother and his Mama! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy.”
After everything Rigsby endured, it’s like fate finally gave him the break he deserved. With the care of the MCAS team and the love from Linda, he’s found a place where he can truly rest easy for good.
