Dog Found At Texas Rodeo With Heavy Tire Rim Around His Neck, Struggling To Break Free

Not every rescue call starts with an urgency so intense it feels like your heart skips a beat, but this one sure did.

It all began on a regular day in Texas when the team at Three Little Pitties Rescue got a call that made everyone stop in their tracks.

Someone had spotted a dog near a crowded rodeo, and he wasn’t just lost, he was stuck. Really stuck.

The poor pup had somehow gotten a heavy metal tire rim around his neck, and he was panicking. You could feel the worry just from the way the caller described it.

The team at TLP has seen a lot, but this? This was different. Kelly Russel, a volunteer at TLP, shared in a YouTube video:

“They think he might have been chasing a squirrel or something and got his head stuck like that.”

The rescuers dropped everything and rushed over, already bracing themselves for the worst. And when they arrived… it broke their hearts.

There he was: scared, alone, and clearly hurting. His head was swollen, his body was trembling, and his eyes were filled with confusion and fear. Kelly shared:

“His head was swollen, and I knew that if we didn’t get him to the vet very soon, that he might not make it.”

It was clear he’d been like that for a while. But what mattered now was saving him, fast.

So the rescue team acted quickly. They sedated him to keep him calm and safe and took him to the vet.

At the clinic, the staff wrapped him in towels to comfort him. He was so scared he couldn’t even let them touch him at first. But the tire rim? It wasn’t budging. They tried everything. Still, no luck.

Eventually, they had to bring in the big guns, literally. The fire department showed up, and even they were surprised. They had never seen anything quite like it.

With the help of the jaws of life, they finally managed to crack the tire open and free him. It took a whole hour, but that hour meant everything.

And just like that, the pup was free.

The sweet boy was a little dazed when he woke up like he was wondering where the weight had gone. But even through his confusion, he knew he’d been rescued.

They started calling him Pickles, because, well… he sure got himself into one! And just like a pickle that’s been soaking too long, he needed time to heal.

In the days that followed, Pickles slowly came back to life. He moved in with his foster mom, Kelly, and something beautiful started to happen.

Around the other dogs, he began to smile and wag his tail like he was learning how to be a dog all over again. He chased toys, made new friends, and soaked up belly rubs. Kelly shared:

“He had never been inside before I would watch him light up around my other foster dogs They just accepted him. It was like he was a puppy all over again.”

Before long, Pickles was thriving. The team even signed the piece of the tire rim they removed and kept it as a reminder of how far he’d come.

And the best part? Pickles found his forever home. Now, he’s just a goofy, sweet boy who lights up every room he walks into.

His past doesn’t define him anymore. He lives in a place where he’s loved, spoiled, and kissed every single day.

And really, what more could a good boy ask for?
