After Years Of Surviving On His Own, This Ohio Cat Finds Purpose Next To Two Kittens In Need

cat and two kittens

Like many stray cats who spend their lives on the streets, this beautiful orange cat found himself in the same situation.

He spent months struggling and surviving on his own. However, one day, fortune smiled upon him and he was rescued from the street.

A kind-hearted woman named Jillian, the founder of FosterBabyCats in Ohio, took him under her wing and decided to turn his life around.

She lovingly named him Dakota, after the street where he was found, and provided him with a comfortable and safe place to stay.

Dakota also underwent a thorough examination, neuter procedure, and received treatments for his injuries before starting his journey to a better life.

As he finally began to relax and adjust to his new life, Dakota proved he was meant for indoor life, and also found a new purpose…

Dakota was estimated to be two years old and soon started to reveal his gentle and easygoing personality. He got along with every cat in the house, showcasing his friendly demeanor.

When he wasn’t hanging out with the resident cats, Dakota would follow Jillian everywhere or nestle into her lap, ready for some cuddles. Jillian shared in an interview:

“The first time he started making biscuits and comfort nursing on a soft blanket, I knew he wasn’t planning on going back outside. He’s very loyal to whoever he claims as his human.”

But one day, something truly warmed Dakota’s heart. When he joined Jillian in the foster room, he met two tiny rescue kittens.

At first, he was unsure about them, but after a few visits, he decided to take them under his wing.

Dakota turned ‘dad mode’ on and quickly started caring for the tiny kittens in need. Jillian said:

“The first time I witnessed some softness from him was when I was helping Bunny (tortie) go potty, and he let her grab his neck to comfort her.”

Slowly but surely, he started grooming the kittens and always being by their side. Jillian added:

“Now, he comes running to help when he knows it’s time for their bottles.I haven’t quite figured out if Dakota likes the idea of kittens or if he’s just caring for them because he thinks they are my babies, and he’s trying to support me. Either option is very sweet, and I appreciate him no matter what the motive.”

Every night, he comes to help get the kittens ready for sleep and ensures they’re safe. Meanwhile, the kittens, Bunny and Bugs, also warmed up to Dakota.

They lean into him during grooming sessions, soaking up all the affection. Jillian shared:

“It has to be so nice to experience being groomed by another cat for the first time. He has done a spectacular job of keeping them clean and allowing them to experience the love of a ‘mom cat’—something I can’t replicate as a human foster mom.”

Dakota is a loyal cat who lives a happy life in his foster home and has embraced the role of cat dad.

However, Jillian hopes he finds a forever home with someone who can give him more time and attention. She said:

“Dakota is so protective and possessive. He needs a very special home that will adore that about him.”

Hopefully, he’ll find a forever home and get the life he truly deserves. Until then, I’m sure he’ll continue thriving next to Jillian, helping her care for many kittens in need.
