North Carolina Cat Gives Birth To A Kitten So Unique, It Leaves Everyone Stunned

“Ugly.” “Gross.” “What is that?” These are the common first reactions when people meet Possum, a unique cat with gray fur, bald spots, and a rat-like tail.

It’s frustrating when people ask hurtful questions without understanding the full story behind what they’re seeing.

On the other hand, some people feel pity for Possum, assuming she has mange or that she’s been a burn victim.

I believe it’s best for them to withhold judgment until they hear Possum’s full story. And here it is!

Never judge a book by its cover, and the same goes for Possum and her appearance.

If it weren’t for Stephanie, Possum might not have found a loving home so quickly, and she wouldn’t have experienced what true love feels like.

Stephanie describes Possum as perfect. In fact, she believes Possum is the most beautiful cat in the world, both inside and out.

But why do people react this way? What happened to this sweet cat?

Possum was one of several kittens born in the backyard of Stephanie’s co-worker in central North Carolina.

When Stephanie’s co-worker found out about the kittens, she soon realized that the mother cat was feral, so she did her best to take care of her and her newborn kittens.

When she examined the kittens closely, she immediately noticed something unusual. All the kittens looked just like their mother; they were short-haired with a calico pattern.

Among the kittens, there was a gray, almost entirely bald one, which turned out to be Possum.

No one could explain it, but it’s believed that Possum may have inherited recessive genes from a werewolf cat breed, like the Lykoi, or something similar. This unusual trait definitely shaped her future.

Soon, all of the kittens from the litter were adopted into loving homes, except for one – Possum. No one wanted to adopt her.

Both Stephanie and her co-worker were concerned. They didn’t want to leave Possum at the shelter, fearing that she would either be euthanized right away or never find a home.

While thinking about what to do with Possum, Stephanie slowly began to fall in love with her.

Even though she had a full house at that time, she finally decided to adopt Possum and make her a part of her family. Stephanie said:

“I felt and still feel like she would have been euthanized if she went there. I live in the South, and a lot of people in this area don’t view cats as pets. I’ve heard a lot of stories about people using them as target practice. I’ve known some pretty horrible people who will speed up if they see a cat in the street. A lot of people in this area won’t or can’t afford to spay or neuter, so we have a huge feral problem.”

I truly believe they were meant to find each other, and I’m so glad they did. If Stephanie hadn’t adopted Possum, who knows what might have become of her?

One thing’s certain – this “ugly” cat would never have known the love she deserved if it weren’t for Stephanie.

Stephanie added:

“With her looking the way she does, I just didn’t feel like her chance of getting adopted was good.”

Stephanie made the right choice. She now has a beautiful feline companion with a big heart.

Possum has truly flourished in her loving forever home and is just like any other cat, full of personality and love.
