Florida Shelter Posts A Note On A Cat’s Kennel And It Leaves Everyone In Tears

This is the story of Amabella, an 8-year-old tuxedo cat from Broward County, Florida, whose life turned upside down in the blink of an eye.

For years, she had lived a happy life with her beloved owner. They were inseparable. But when her owner lost his home, everything changed.

With nowhere else to go, he began living out of his truck, and Amabella, loyal as ever, stayed right by his side.

As much as he loved her, her owner eventually realized that life in a cramped truck wasn’t fair for Amabella. He brought her to the Humane Society of Broward County, hoping she would find a better home than the one he could give.

He thought it was the right thing to do, but for Amabella, it felt like her whole world had ended.

Inside the shelter, she grew more confused and heartbroken by the day. She didn’t understand where her human had gone or why she was suddenly surrounded by strangers.

Shelter staff tried everything to cheer her up, but nothing worked. Watching her withdraw was painful for them, too. Susan Leonti, digital marketing specialist at the shelter, shared in an interview:

“We noticed that Amabella was starting to shut down and become withdrawn about two weeks after arriving at our shelter. We immediately made signage for visitors to see her story.”

The team decided they couldn’t just sit back and watch her give up. They wrote a heartbreaking note from Amabella’s perspective and pinned it to her kennel.

Then, they shared her video on Facebook, hoping someone would hear her silent cry for love. The note read:

“I don’t know if I can take anymore. My dad lost his home and I moved into a truck with him. After awhile he thought it would be better for me if I found a new home. I miss him. We slept together under his blanket and I miss his love. Now I’ve been alone in this cage just waiting for someone to choose me. I heard today a volunteer say that ‘I’m shutting down.’ If that means my heart is sad, she’s right. I really need a new best friend and to be loved again. Pick me?”

The shelter described Amabella as a sweet, gentle cat who adored children and even got along with dogs.

They also revealed that her adoption fee had been fully sponsored, hoping this would give her the best chance at finally finding the home she deserved.

The response was overwhelming. Within hours of posting the video, the internet rallied around Amabella.

Messages of love and offers to adopt poured in from all over the world. And then came the moment everyone had been praying for…

Just the very next morning, a family arrived at the shelter ready to give Amabella her second chance.

Today, she’s thriving in her new home, showered with love and even spoiled by her new human sister.

Perhaps, in the end, her first owner was right. His heartbreaking decision gave Amabella the chance to live her golden years in a home where she is cherished, safe, and adored, just as he always wanted for her.
