Orange Cat Visits His Young Friend In Berkeley Every Day In The Sweetest Routine

Few things are as heart-melting as the bond between a child and a cat, and the story of Coco and her feline friend Waffles is the perfect example of just how magical that connection can be.
Meet Waffles: a cheerful orange tabby with a heart of gold and a daily mission, to visit his favorite little human, Coco.
Every day, like clockwork, Coco waits patiently at the window, eyes scanning the driveway for a familiar furry figure. The moment she spots Waffles trotting toward the house, she dashes outside to greet him with food and affection.

Waffles doesn’t disappoint. He races over with enthusiasm, clearly just as excited to see Coco as she is to see him. Their connection is undeniable. As Coco’s mom, Michaela, shared in an interview:
“Waffles really enjoys that he has a little girl that’s looking out the window waiting for him. Whenever she’s out there and he comes running up, he’s so excited to see her. It’s a really sweet experience to see their little bond.”
But how did this unique friendship begin?

It all started when Coco’s family began noticing an orange cat roaming their neighborhood. Friendly and approachable, the cat would often stop by their home, and they quickly took to leaving food out for him.
As the visits became more regular, the family affectionately named him Waffles. Then one day, they spotted a collar with a tag around his neck.
Curious, Michaela called the number on it and discovered that Waffles did, in fact, have a home nearby.

Even though Waffles wasn’t homeless, he kept coming back. His gentle nature and love for Coco clearly meant something more than just a quest for snacks.
“We were surprised when he first showed up that he was so friendly. He came right up to us and let us pet him.”

Waffles operates on his own schedule. He never arrives at the same time twice, making each visit a joyful surprise. But one thing is certain, he never misses a day.
“It was such a surprise when he kept coming back, but he loves it enough to come back and get pets. And I’m sure my daughter is a big reason for that.”

The connection between the two is so touching that it’s inspired the entire family, especially Michaela, who began writing a children’s book series based on their adventures, titled Waffles The Cat.
Waffles’ relationship with Coco isn’t just adorable, it’s deeply meaningful. Studies have shown that growing up with pets can help children develop empathy, responsibility, and stronger emotional intelligence.
In Coco’s case, her bond with Waffles offers a daily dose of unconditional love, playfulness, and connection. It’s a friendship that demonstrates how a simple act of kindness, offering food to a passing cat, can lead to something truly special.
And after seeing the way Waffles lights up Coco’s world, it’s hard to disagree.
