Kentucky Shelter Cat Masters The Saddest Face Until The Right Family Finally Falls For Him

Cats are known for being clever, mysterious, and downright charming. But Otie, a tabby cat from Louisville, Kentucky, managed to take things to an entirely new level.

Tired of waiting for his forever family to show up, he came up with a plan, one that relied entirely on his ability to look as pitiful as possible.

Alyssa and her husband, both proud cat lovers, already had two beloved kitties at home. Adoption wasn’t on their to-do list at the time.

But one day, Alyssa’s husband decided to cheer her up by taking her to PetSmart in Louisville, where a local shelter kept cats up for adoption.

That’s when they first laid eyes on Otie. Sitting in his kennel, he wasn’t playing, he wasn’t purring, and he wasn’t meowing.

Instead, Otie was making the most dramatic, heart-wrenching face Alyssa had ever seen.

It was impossible not to notice him. And for Alyssa, impossible to forget.

Every day that week, Alyssa was driving back to see Otie. And every single time, there he was, switching up his pose but never dropping the sorrowful look that made him stand out.

Other visitors walked right past him, probably assuming his gloomy expression meant he wasn’t friendly.

But Alyssa knew better. She felt an undeniable pull toward him and couldn’t understand how such a sweet-looking cat had been overlooked for so long.

Despite having no plans to add a third cat, she and her husband started talking seriously about giving Otie a home. It didn’t take long for the decision to become clear.

Once the adoption papers went through, Otie finally got what he’d been angling for: a family of his own.

The moment Otie arrived at his new home, everything changed. He relaxed instantly, as if he’d been waiting all along for Alyssa to come for him.

He fit right in with the household, especially bonding with Curtis, one of his new feline siblings. Most of all, though, Otie adored his new mom.

He began shadowing Alyssa everywhere she went, even into the bathroom.

Whether she was lounging on the couch, making dinner, or taking a shower, Otie was right there, too. 

Otie is a master biscuit-maker. He often kneads Alyssa with all his might, partly out of love and partly in hopes of getting a treat.

And whenever Alyssa has a tough day, Otie turns into a living weighted blanket, curling on top of her until she feels better. She shared in a YouTube video:

“He very much has the weighted blanket effect where he will crawl up on me if I’m lying down, having a bad day. He’ll crawl up on me and just lay there and let me hold him. It just is that unspoken bond and connection. It’s amazing the power of cats on your mental health. They just make everything better.”

Otie’s antics quickly won fans outside of his home, too. Alyssa began posting photos and videos of him online, and people loved it.

Today, he has thousands of fans who tune in for his funny memes and sweet motivational posts.

And that’s not all. Otie also stars alongside Henry in a YouTube cat soap opera called Winds of Change.

It’s every bit as hilarious as it sounds and has helped make Otie an internet celebrity.

From the saddest face in a shelter kennel to the star of his own soap opera, Otie has come a long way.

What started as a clever little trick to get noticed ended with him finding exactly what he was looking for: a family that adores him, a mom he can’t leave alone, and fans all over the world who can’t get enough of him.

As Alyssa puts it best, Otie really is “the purest soul.”

And judging by the way he continues to melt hearts online and at home, it’s clear his plan worked better than he ever could have imagined.
