New York Sanctuary Saves A Tiny Piglet From A Horrific Dog Attack

This is the story of Mikey, a little piglet whose resilience and spirit will melt your heart. It’s about survival, courage, and the extraordinary bond between humans and animals — a reminder that even the tiniest lives are worth fighting for.

When Mikey was just four weeks old, he had a terrifying encounter with a dog that left him badly injured. He was rushed to Cornell University Animal Hospital in Ithaca, New York, fighting for his life.
At first, the outlook was bleak. The vets warned that if treatment costs went over $500, euthanasia might be the only option.

But Todd, the founder of Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary in Parksville, New York, refused to give up. He knew Mikey deserved a chance to live, no matter the odds.
Todd took Mikey under his care and helped him undergo a risky brain surgery where part of his skull had to be removed. The early days were uncertain.

Mikey moved slowly, and his recovery hung in the balance. But Todd’s unwavering dedication, paired with Mikey’s own fighting spirit, slowly began to turn the tide.
Once stable enough, Mikey came home to Todd. Instead of a cold, sterile crate, he had a cozy crib in a warm, safe space. Every detail was designed to make him feel nurtured and secure, helping him heal not just physically but emotionally.

Even after surgery, Mikey faced setbacks, including a serious upper respiratory infection that required another hospital visit.
Through it all, Todd stayed by his side, giving him daily nebulization treatments and constant care. Gradually, Mikey grew stronger and more confident.

Back at the sanctuary, surrounded by people who loved and supported him, Mikey’s true personality began to shine.
He started to play, explore, and show off his quirky preferences — bananas, berries, and cucumbers were his favourites, while lettuce was firmly rejected.

Mikey even formed a special bond with Todd, sharing his bed every night. As Todd explained in a video:
“He sleeps in bed with me every night because I felt like he never got that nurturing from his mother. And he needed to heal and feel the nurturing, he needed to fight for his life.”

That love and trust became a cornerstone of Mikey’s recovery.
Today, Mikey is the adored mayor of Arthur’s Acres. His days are filled with sunny naps, playful antics with other pigs, and endless affection from sanctuary staff.
But the heart of his story is the bond he shares with Todd — a bond built on care, trust, and a lifetime of second chances.

Mikey’s journey is a powerful reminder that every life matters, and with love and patience, even the smallest beings can flourish.
His story inspires us all to cherish and nurture those in need, proving that compassion can change lives — one little pig at a time.
