Starving Kitten From Washington Loses His Vision To An Infection But Refuses To Give Up
Cats living on the streets face countless struggles, and adjusting to life after rescue can be a tough journey. But just imagine how much more difficult it must be for a tiny kitten.
This little ginger kitten, rescued from the streets, took every opportunity to live his best life, refusing to let his health challenges stand in his way.
The kitten, who would later be named Stevie, was taken to an animal shelter in dire condition.
He was weak, starving, and battling painful eye infections.
Thankfully, Stevie found himself in the caring hands of SpokAnimal in Washington, where he received the help he desperately needed. Jamie Myers, from SpokAnimal, shared in an interview:
“The folks at our local shelter (SpokAnimal) saw value in his life, and they saved him. They performed life-saving surgery to remove both of his eyes and asked me if I would like to foster him.”
Though losing his eyes meant Stevie would be blind, it also meant he would be free from the constant pain he had endured.
The most important thing was that Jamie didn’t hesitate for a second to welcome him into her home.
From the very beginning, Jamie gave everything she had. She syringe-fed Stevie until he was strong enough to eat on his own and provided around-the-clock care to make sure he was always comfortable and safe.
Stevie’s recovery was remarkable. He quickly gained strength, started eating on his own, and began to explore his new surroundings.
His playful personality soon shone through, especially when he found his favorite toys.
Despite his blindness, Stevie blossomed into a vibrant, joyful cat, always eager to play with his fellow foster siblings. Among all his new friends, one cat held a special place in Stevie’s heart – Waffles.
There was something about Waffles that drew Stevie in, and Waffles, in turn, warmly accepted him. Together, they formed an unbreakable bond and a beautiful “furriendship.”
Stevie became Waffles’ devoted shadow, following him everywhere and mimicking his every move, soaking in all the lessons Waffles had to offer.
With patience and kindness, Waffles showed Stevie the ropes of cat life – how to navigate furniture, climb stairs, and everything in between.
Waffles, a gentle and loving cat, took Stevie under his wing, teaching him the essentials of being a cat.
On the other hand, Stevie turned out to be a wonderful kitten, bringing endless joy and vitality into Jamie’s foster home. She said:`
“I knew from the moment I saw him that we were his forever family.”
