Houston Rescuers Step In Just In Time To Save A Starving Dog On The Brink Of Survival

Monique couldn’t stop thinking about him. The moment she saw the picture of this poor dog, something just stopped inside her.

He looked so frail, so broken, like life had already beaten him down far too much.

His thin body, his sunken eyes, every detail screamed that he’d been through more than any animal should ever endure.

Even though Monique already had her hands full, she couldn’t turn away. She thought, “What’s one more?” and went straight to get him.

At first, it seemed like he might make it. For the first couple of days, he was eating a little, resting, and showing faint signs of improvement.

But it didn’t last. Suddenly, he stopped eating entirely.

When he did manage to eat, it wouldn’t stay down. He was nauseous, clearly in distress, and Monique knew something was seriously wrong.

At the vet, initial tests didn’t give answers, but it was obvious his little body wasn’t working properly.

They ran X-rays and discovered the cause: a serious obstruction in his abdomen.

Vomiting worsened, and he couldn’t keep anything down. His condition was deteriorating fast.

Monique stayed on the phone with the vet, desperate. The news was grim. He needed surgery, and it needed to happen immediately.

This little dog wasn’t just malnourished. He was severely underweight, sick, anemic, and heartworm-positive.

The surgery was very risky, but without it, Chance wouldn’t survive. That’s actually how he got his name: Chance. One shot at life, one opportunity to turn things around.

Monique knew the odds weren’t in their favor. She stayed by his side before the surgery, encouraging him to fight, as we can hear in the video:

“Can you fight? Yes. You can do that for me. I need you to be strong.”

The operation lasted five long hours. The vets removed 12 inches of damaged intestine and then placed him in the ICU for three days.

At first, Chance was still weak and in pain, but a spark remained. By the second day, he was walking a little, showing glimpses of the energy he had lost.

Soon, he was begging for food, wagging his tail, and bringing back his spirit. Monique was overjoyed, amazed at how quickly he turned around.

Every day after, Chance grew stronger. He ate well, played, and soaked in the sun. He was no longer the frail, broken dog who had almost been lost.

The vet later admitted she had never seen a case this severe in her career, calling him a walking miracle. And that’s exactly what he was.

With Monique’s love, care, and patience, Chance healed fully. He regained his strength, his confidence, and most importantly, his will to live.

And then, after weeks of recovery, he got the happiest news imaginable: a forever home.

After everything he had survived, from starvation to major surgery, Chance finally found a family who saw him as the gentle, loving soul he truly was.

He was safe, adored, and ready to enjoy every moment of the life he had fought so hard to keep.
