Missouri Construction Worker Frozen In Shock After Finding Tiny Creature Trapped In Spray Foam

A construction worker in Missouri was going about his day when a surprising sight paused him in his tracks.

A little family of squirrels had somehow wandered onto the site, and he quickly helped guide them to safety.

Once the squirrels were out of harm’s way, he returned to his work, shaking up a can of spray foam to fill a small gap like he always did.

But he didn’t notice one tiny squirrel had been left behind. Scared and startled, the baby made a desperate jump and landed right in the sticky foam.

It only took moments before the helpless baby was almost entirely coated in the gooey insulation, which quickly began to solidify. The scene was gut-wrenching.

The worker quickly pulled off as much foam as he could before rushing the little guy to the Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center. The squirrel was clearly in a bad way, but thankfully, he was in the right hands now.

The team at MWRC stepped in next, patiently working to get the little guy out of the mess, as they shared in a Facebook post:

“The animal care team worked against the clock to carefully remove the foam using cotton swabs and vegetable oil before it fully hardened.”

Though much of the foam still clung to his fur, the team approached the situation with steady hands, determined not to add more stress to the frightened baby.

They began by clearing out his mouth and nostrils so he could breathe, then gently cleaned around his eyes so he could see again.

Little by little, they continued the painstaking task of removing the foam from his tiny body, doing their best to keep him calm and comfortable.

To help ease his discomfort, they gave him a small dose of pain relief and monitored his vital signs, especially his eyes and mucous membranes, watching for any signs of infection.

That night, the squirrel was bundled up in a cozy blanket, safe and warm for the first time in a while. By the next morning, most of the foam had been removed.

Though his skin was raw and sensitive, he was already showing signs of improvement. His eyes looked clearer, and he was starting to move around more easily.

The center shared an uplifting update:

“We are still keeping a close eye on his condition and he has a long way to recovery, but we are amazed by his current progress.”

The little squirrel still has some healing ahead, and it’s going to take time. There’s no rushing recovery, especially after something so scary.

But little by little, he’s getting stronger. For now, he’s surrounded by people who truly care, soaking up all the love, warmth, and comfort they’re giving him.

These are the folks who didn’t give up when things looked bad, and that care is making all the difference.

And when he’s finally ready, when his body’s healed and his spirit feels strong again, he’ll be back out in the wild.
