NY Pet Sitters Lose It After Realizing They Have 2 Identical Cats Where There Should Only Be 1

Dylan LaPort and Jasmine Johnson were only a couple of days into a month-long pet-sitting job in cozy upstate New York. Four cats to care for. Four fluffy, opinionated, adorable little roommates. Easy, right?

Then they got the text. The kind no pet sitter ever wants to see.

A neighbor swore they’d spotted one of the cats outside. Right away, Dylan’s heart dropped. He shared in an interview:

“We were like, ‘No way! There’s, like, no way that this cat got outside. We were very cautious.”

But panic is panic… and it hits fast. Before they knew it, Dylan and Jasmine were tearing through the house, but Nemo was nowhere to be found.
So the search began. Friends jumped in. Neighbors helped. Everyone spread out like a small rescue team.
After two hours of scanning bushes and calling his name, Dylan finally spotted a cat several houses down. Long black fur. Yellow eyes. Same exact face. It had to be Nemo.
A neighbor scooped up the cat and passed him over. Dylan snapped a photo and sent it to Nemo’s mom. She confirmed it immediately. Whew. Everyone could breathe again.
Or… so they thought.

A full week went by. And something was… off. Nemo wasn’t usually a snuggler. More of a “love me from a respectful distance” kind of guy.
But ever since “the escape,” he suddenly wanted cuddles. Constantly. It was odd, but also cute, so they went with it.
Then came the night everything fell apart. Around 2 a.m., Jasmine wandered into the kitchen for water. She turned around… and froze.
There were five cats, staring at her like she had interrupted a secret council meeting. And right in the middle of that silent little audience were two identical black cats, sitting side by side with the same shaggy coats and the same yellow eyes.

Her heart just about left her body. She grabbed her phone because honestly… if you don’t record it, did it even happen?
And as she stood there filming the twin cats, the truth finally hit her. One of them wasn’t Nemo. Which meant… They had literally kidnapped someone else’s cat.
Dylan later posted the video on Facebook with the caption:
“The moment we found out we stole someone’s cat.”

It didn’t take long before someone recognized the mystery twin. It was Kelly Aleschus, the same neighbor who had handed the cat to them in the first place.
Kelly had been missing her cat Sidney all week. A 13-year-old indoor boy. Long black fur. Yellow eyes. Basically, Nemo’s clone.
She’d been heartbroken, convinced her senior sweetheart had passed. And then she spotted the video. She said:
“I still can't believe I actually gave him my own cat. The worst part about it is once I handed them the cat … I'm like, ‘Wow, you look like Sidney.’”
Honestly… fair. These two cats were basically cosmic copy-paste.

So, Sidney had apparently been living his best life the whole week, blending in like he had always been a part of the squad.
Meanwhile, the real Nemo? He was probably hiding in some secret dimension behind a wall panel or inside a mattress. Classic Nemo.
Everyone eventually returned to their proper homes, and life went back to normal. Well… as normal as it gets with a cat like Nemo.
A few weeks later, he pulled another disappearing act, giving his mom a mini heart attack, only to casually show up on the porch like, “What’s the big deal?”
At this point, his family has learned one thing: expect the unexpected with Nemo.
