New Jersey Plumber Responds To Odd Call And Becomes The Only Hope For Three Precious Lives

Ashley DaSilva was used to handling sudden emergencies. Working in animal rescue meant surprises came with the job. But this situation immediately felt heavier than most.

Only an hour after she’d placed a pregnant rescue cat into a foster home, her phone buzzed. The voice on the other end was filled with fear and urgency: the expectant mama was gone.

Ashley’s heart dropped. She had just moved the cat to what was supposed to be a safe place to prepare for her babies, and now she had vanished.

In less than an hour, the cat had managed to pry open the lid of a floor vent and slip inside.

From the third floor, she fell through narrow metal ductwork and ended up deep in the basement walls.

No one could see her. No one could reach her. The only clues were faint sounds of movement, and then silence.

Ashley grabbed her keys and rushed over, as she shared in an interview:

“I raced all the way there as fast as I could, called everybody possible that I could, animal services, wildlife, you know, anyone possible and they basically said that they couldn’t help us.”

Time was critical. The cat could be injured, trapped, or even about to go into labor.

Ashley knew she needed someone with the tools, someone who knew how to reach places others couldn’t.

That’s when she thought of a plumber. It sounded unusual, but it was the only option left, and it turned out to be exactly right.

Adam Gordon, from the Morella Group in New Jersey, answered the call. He grabbed his team and headed over with a sewer camera to explore the vent system.

The camera revealed a heart-wrenching scene. The cat’s hind legs were stuck in a narrow duct.

She was overheating and barely breathing, surrounded by sharp edges that could have caused serious injury.

Gordon carefully dismantled the duct piece by piece, moving slowly to avoid harming her.

After what felt like forever, they finally freed her. The cat barely moved at first. Ashley scooped her up, cradling her in her arms, and she finally relaxed, as Ashley shared:

“When I brought her close to me I felt her take a breath and it just… The emotions overcame me because I was so relieved.”

Against all odds, the cat, now named Plum, had survived the fall, fear, and heat without a scratch.

Hours later, the first of two healthy kittens arrived, followed quickly by the second. And just like that, a terrifying rescue turned into the start of a new chapter for all three.

That plumber didn’t just save one life; he saved three. His quick thinking, steady hands, and willingness to step in when no one else could made all the difference.

Thanks to determination, a sewer camera, and a team full of heart, this little family finally got the second chance they truly deserved.
