Abandoned Indiana Kitten Finds True Love And Turns Into A Purring Machine

Meet Butterball, the tiny, wide-eyed kitten who captured hearts with his remarkable transformation. Once shy and nervous, he spent his early days hiding beneath blankets, peeking out only when he felt it was safe.

Over time, his confidence grew, and so did his personality. Now, instead of hiding, Butterball struts into the room, head held high, letting out his signature “roars” — tiny but full of charm — to make sure everyone knows he’s there.

He was taken to IndyHumane, a nonprofit organization that helps abandoned animals, in Indianapolis, Indiana. At first, he was timid and frightened, seeking shelter under any cover he could find.

Then came Jennifer, a kind foster volunteer from New Kittens on the Block in Indiana, who took him in, named him, and provided a caring home for him.

She prepared a snug kitten pen filled with all the essentials – plush beds to curl up in, a variety of toys to spark his curiosity, and enough room for him to stretch and explore without feeling overwhelmed.

At first, Butterball would peek out cautiously, but before long, he began to trust his foster mum, greeting her with soft purrs and inching closer each day.

His playful side soon emerged, and he delighted in batting at toy mice and chasing crinkly balls across the pen. Still, the noisier toys made him pause, his little ears flicking at unfamiliar sounds, but with gentle encouragement, he was slowly learning that playtime was safe and fun.

“He’s even purred for me a few times. He’s super playful and likes his new toys; although, some of them that make noise spook him. He gets nervous and hides at unfamiliar sounds.”

With each passing day, Jennifer’s gentle presence and endless patience began to work their magic on Butterball. The once-shy kitten started to peek out from his hiding spots more often, his bright eyes following her every move. Before long, he was confidently padding into the open, stretching his tiny legs and batting playfully at the air.

Sometimes he’d flop onto his back, paws waving as if inviting her to join in his games, before rolling around in delight on the soft bedding. Every little gesture was a sign that Butterball was learning to feel safe, loved, and at home.

Jennifer believed he might have been born to a feral cat and hadn’t been well-socialized with humans.

However, Butterball soon gained confidence and walked right into his foster mom’s lap.

Butterball’s transformation continued, and he started to enjoy indoor life. He began meowing and showing affection, seemingly fascinated by everything Jennifer did. He even made dramatic roars for no apparent reason!

Just hear him roar:

As Jennifer says:

“He likes to scream dramatically at his foster mom for no reason.”

Now, Butterball loves being around people and watches their every move. He’s adjusting well to indoor life and will soon be introduced to other resident cats. Jennifer believes he’s eager to make more friends.
