Biker Riding By The Woods In California Spots A Black Furbaby Abandoned And Scared

Scott Bishop was out on a bike ride through the forest roads near Mount Baldy in California when something black zipped by in a blur. It wasn’t a squirrel or a bird. It was something… different.
And then he saw him.
Off to the side of the road, a little black puppy was pacing nervously in the dirt. No collar, no leash, no sign of anyone nearby.

He looked scared and unsure of where to go or who to trust. The closest town was miles away.
Scott really wanted to help the little pup right then and there. But the road was closed to cars, and he couldn’t carry a dog on his bike. All he could do was head home and hope the pup would still be there in the morning.
So first thing the next day, before the sun had come up, Scott and his wife Hailey drove straight back to that same forest road.

For a few minutes, it felt hopeless. There was no sign of him. But then, through the thick leaves of a bush, two round little eyes peeked out. There he was.
They coaxed him out, and once he realized they weren’t there to hurt him, he let himself be scooped up. It was like he was just waiting for someone to do that.
As soon as Scott and Hailey got him home, something beautiful happened. The fear started to melt away, and the real puppy came out.

Tail wags, zoomies, that goofy energy, it all came rushing out like he’d been holding it in forever. Haliey shared in an interview:
“I feel like the biggest change in his personality when we got him was how quickly he jumped into puppy mode.”
He became best buddies with their other dog right away, and soon their days were all about playing, cuddling, and long walks together.

A trip to the vet confirmed he was healthy, but no microchip. No family looking for him. Maybe that was for the best, because he was already starting to find a new one.
Scott told his parents all about the puppy they’d found. They weren’t even looking for a dog, but sometimes hearts just know.
A couple of Zoom calls later, Scott’s parents were totally smitten. They wanted him to be theirs.

So, Scott and Hailey set off on a 15-hour road trip with their new furry friend, driving all the way from California to Colorado.
When they finally arrived, Scott’s parents were waiting with open arms. One look at the pup, and it was game over. He was already home.
They named him Bonez, and he fit right in, like he’d been part of the family all along.

And the best part? Even though Scott and Hailey had to say goodbye, they knew they’d still get to see Bonez grow up. He’d always be part of their lives, as Hailey shared:
“It seems like it was fate that … we found him a home and it’s in the family, so we’ll be seeing him the rest of his life.”
That made saying goodbye a whole lot easier.
