Homeward Bound Cats was recently left in shock when someone decided to dump and abandon two kittens in front of their facilities.
One of the volunteers saw the two fluffballs and immediately brought them inside. What exactly happened to them before was uncertain, but the shelter knew they needed help from now on.
Fortunately, one of their most experienced foster volunteers, Ellen Richter, was on-site. Just days before, she had found loving homes for some of her foster kittens and decided to take these two poor souls back home with her.
When Ellen brought them home, she realized that these two sisters were extremely bonded. The hardship of their lives before brought these two furry sisters closer together.
But one thing was for sure: these two fluffballs enjoyed Ellen’s attention. She soon realized that both of them were huge cuddle bugs, and adored being warmly tucked in Ellen’s lap.
Ellen named them Toffee Twix and Caramel Swirl – names just as sweet as the kittens themselves. However, their rough start in life reflected on them.
Both Toffee and Caramel were malnourished and way too tiny for kittens that age. Ellen couldn’t even introduce them to other foster kittens in her home, since Toffee and Caramel were significantly smaller than them.
Their overall health seemed fine, but Ellen had to tackle their weight. The only problem was that both Toffee and Caramel disliked any food Ellen brought them.
Whether it was wet food, yummy treats, or dry food the kittens showed no interest in it! This worried Ellen day and night, but she was determined to figure out which food would turn on their purr engine.
Luckily, after being picky eaters for about 2 weeks their appetite finally increased and the two adorable sisters started gaining weight!
Ellen also noticed that Toffee and Caramel were the calmest kittens she had ever fostered. Sure, they had the energy of typical kittens, but Ellen described it best in one of her posts:
“These kittens are very quiet and calm. They’re energetic, but in a mellow way. I don’t think I’ve had 2 siblings be this calm. Most of the time they want to be in my lap, held and cuddled, or climb on my shoulders.”
Being such unique and sweet kittens, Ellen had to make sure to find them a perfect home. Of course, since they were bonded they had to be adopted together!
She took Toffee and Caramel to the Homeward Bound adoption center, hoping to find them a perfect match.
Luckily, the same day a couple came in and once they laid eyes on Toffee and Caramel they immediately fell in love. As Ellen mentioned in an update:
“These sisters are a perfect fit for their new family. It’s a very quiet and calm household, no other pets so these girls will be spoiled rotten.”
I’m so happy Toffee and Caramel found a home together, where they would be loved and spoiled for the rest of their lives!
