Abandoned Kitten In Indiana Finds Love And Turns Into The Sweetest Purring Machine

butterball the kitten turns into purring machine

When a tiny ginger kitten named Butterball first arrived at IndyHumane in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was completely lost and scared.

No one knew exactly what he had been through, but it was clear that life hadn’t been kind to him.

He would curl up under blankets, trembling at the smallest noise, trying to disappear from the world around him.

But everything changed when Jennifer, a kind-hearted foster volunteer from New Kittens on the Block, came to take him home.

She named him Butterball, a name that somehow fit his round little face perfectly, and promised to show him what safety and love really felt like.

Jennifer set up the coziest little kitty space for him. There were soft beds, fun toys, and warm blankets, everything a kitten could dream of.

Still, at first, Butterball wasn’t sure. He would hide and peek out cautiously, flinching at unfamiliar sounds.

But Jennifer was patient. She spoke softly, moved slowly, and let him take things at his own pace.

It wasn’t long before Butterball started to come out of his shell. He began to explore his new world and play with toys.

He even started purring for the very first time. Jennifer shared in an interview:

“He’s even purred for me a few times. He’s super playful and likes his new toys; although, some of them that make noise spook him. He gets nervous and hides at unfamiliar sounds.”

Little by little, Butterball realized that no one was going to hurt him. He started to trust Jennifer. He’d run up to her with tiny happy paws and roll around on the floor, showing off his fuzzy belly.

Jennifer believed he might have been born to a feral mother and just never had the chance to learn that humans can be safe. But now, he was learning exactly that, and he was thriving.

The sweetest moment came when Butterball walked right up to Jennifer and climbed into her lap for the first time. That simple act said it all: he finally felt safe.

From there, his confidence skyrocketed. He discovered his voice and began to use it… a lot.

He would let out the funniest, most dramatic little “roars” as if he were a lion trapped inside a kitten’s body. Jennifer couldn’t help but laugh every time, sharing:

“He likes to scream dramatically at his foster mom for no reason.”

Now, Butterball follows Jennifer around everywhere, curious about everything she does. He’s learning how to be an indoor cat, soaking up every bit of love and comfort he once never knew existed.

Soon, he’ll meet the other cats in the house, and Jennifer has no doubt he’ll fit right in; he’s just too full of life and affection not to.

It’s hard to believe this is the same frightened kitten who once hid under blankets, too scared to be seen. With patience, kindness, and a whole lot of love, Butterball has turned into a confident little purring machine who never stops “talking” to his humans.
