California Cat Devastated After His Owner Passed Not Knowing A Miracle Awaits Him

I have to say, few things bring me as much joy as hearing about older shelter cats getting a second chance at happiness when it seemed out of reach.

That’s exactly what happened with Mykonos, a charming six-year-old cat from California named after the Greek island. From the moment I learned about him, my heart was full.

This sweet boy had lost the person he loved most and suddenly found himself facing the tough reality of life on the streets of Oakland.

He had to fend for himself, surviving each day until a twist of fate stepped in to change everything…

Mykonos didn’t start out as a street cat. He once had a devoted owner and lived a peaceful indoor life filled with laughter, treats, and endless cuddles.

Tragically, his owner passed away unexpectedly, leaving Mykonos alone and without care.

Thrown into the harsh reality of life on the streets, he wandered through Oakland streets, scavenging for scraps of food and searching for shelter wherever he could find it.

Fortunately, some caring neighbors noticed him one day, curled up under a porch. They reached out to a nearby cat shelter, which immediately took him in.

Being an older cat with multiple health concerns caused by the stress of abandonment, Mykonos faced slim chances of ever finding a forever home.

However, kind rescuers from Oakland’s Cat Town fell head over heels for this “handsome hunk of love” and quickly found him a foster home.

On their official Facebook page, Cat Town shared praise for Mykonos’ sweet personality, affectionately calling him a “lovey-dovey purr muffin.”

They explained that while he was shy and cautious at first, Mykonos deeply longed for love. He thrived on cuddles, gentle scratches, and soft rubs – truly an ideal companion for anyone looking for a devoted pet.

Since he was FIV positive, Mykonos needed to be an indoor cat, ideally the only feline in the household.

Cat Town was determined to find him the perfect forever home, no matter how long it took because he deserved to be loved. As his foster parents shared:

“This cat is BUILT, but is a total love bug. He is going to make some family very, very happy!”

Sudden Health Complications

As the days went by, Mykonos grew more comfortable in his foster home, and his loving nature began to show even more.

But after a few days, he suddenly stopped eating, which worried his foster parents deeply.

They took him to the emergency vet, where he was diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis, also known as fatty liver disease, and pancreatic inflammation

Several weeks after being diagnosed, Mykonos had to be fed through an esophageal tube four times a day to regain his strength and recover.

Even with these setbacks, Mykonos’ determination never faded. He stayed hopeful that he would regain his strength and enjoy a happy, healthy life.

With the dedicated care of the Cat Town volunteers, he recovered quickly – something that would have been nearly impossible in the busy shelter environment.

Mykonos Finally Finds Love

While recovering at Cat Town’s Adoption Center, Mykonos met a kind-hearted couple who immediately adored him.

They spent three hours bonding with him and, certain he was the perfect match, submitted an adoption request that very same day.

In that moment, Mykonos – who had known love and loss, traded a cozy home for the harsh streets, and then the shelter for a foster home – finally received the second chance at happiness he deserved.

The couple adopted Mykonos, and he became part of a lovely family, which included a cat-friendly dog and a bunny.

His new family sent an update to the Cat Town staff, saying:

“Things have been going really well. He’s a bit skittish with new sights and smells, but has been building his confidence every day, eating well, playing, and asking for belly rubs. He’s such an amazing cat, so affectionate, and just really wants to be a part of the family.”

Despite Mykonos’s difficult journey, he finally got his ticket to happiness!

I’m overjoyed that this gentle soul found a family ready to give him all the love he deserves.

I like to think his late owner is watching from above, smiling knowing that his cherished cat finally has the happy ending he longed for.
