Cat Sat At California Rescue For Months Until One Woman Decided To Embrace His Quirky Vibe

After being rejected by his mother and overlooked by adopters, a uniquely colored cat finds the perfect home that appreciates all his strange little quirks.

Overlooked And Misunderstood

Kiwi was a strikingly beautiful cat with rare coloring, yet he sat at a local rescue for months without a single application. Adopters would walk right past his kennel, put off by his defensive behavior.

Whenever someone approached, the little cat would hiss, pushing away the very people who could help him. The rescue staff noted that potential adopters simply didn’t like his vibe.

He was stuck in a lonely cycle, misunderstood by everyone who came to look for a new pet. It seemed like no one was willing to give this beautiful but complicated cat a second glance.

A Chance Encounter

Sarah, an experienced animal lover who has raised hundreds of cats since childhood, eventually noticed the lonely feline. She approached the rescue director to ask why such a pretty cat hadn’t found a home yet.

Hearing about his hissing and how people avoided him, Sarah felt a tug at her heartstrings. She wasn’t intimidated by a cat with a little attitude.

Instead of walking away like everyone else, she decided right then and there to take him home. She knew he just needed a chance to decompress outside of the shelter environment.

The Runt Of The Litter

Kiwi’s rough start in life explained a lot of his defensive behavior. He was the runt of his litter and had been completely rejected by his mother.

Without a maternal figure to guide him, he missed out on learning typical feline social cues. He didn’t know how to trust or how to properly interact with the world around him.

Sarah knew she had to step in and become the mother figure this poor guy desperately needed. She was ready to offer him the patience he had been denied since birth.

An Unpredictable Personality

Having fostered so many cats, Sarah was usually an expert at reading feline body language. But Kiwi was entirely different.

She quickly realized she never quite knew what he was going to do next. He was a very tough cat to read, which likely contributed to his long stay at the rescue.

Despite his confusing signals, Sarah learned that he wasn’t aggressive at all. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body; he just communicated differently than any cat she had ever met.

Echolocating His Brain Cell

Once comfortable in his new home, Kiwi’s hilarious quirks began to shine. He developed a habit of wandering around the house, letting out long, drawn-out meows for absolutely no reason.

He was perfectly cared for and needed nothing, yet he cried out in a way Sarah had never heard before. It was a completely unique form of communication.

Her sister joked that the quirky cat was just trying to "echolocate his brain cell" as he wandered the halls. He wasn’t exactly a great thinker, but the things his mind held onto were incredibly funny.

Strange Sounds And Open Stares

Kiwi’s odd communication extended to his grooming routine, too. When Sarah tried to trim his nails, he would make the strangest noises.

He didn’t seem to know how to growl correctly, so he just emitted bizarre sounds of protest to let her know he was annoyed.

Other times, Sarah would look over and catch him simply staring at her with his mouth hanging wide open. She never had any idea why he did it, but it only added to his endearing charm.

Seeking Feline Comfort

Because he missed out on a mother’s love early on, Kiwi developed a deep appreciation for other felines. He absolutely loves affection from his fellow rescue cats.

Anytime another cat is willing to cuddle with him, Kiwi is in absolute heaven. He soaks up the warmth and companionship he missed out on as a kitten.

These moments of feline friendship help heal the rejection he faced in his past. Watching him snuggle with his siblings proved that he had a massive capacity for love.

Love On His Own Terms

Kiwi isn’t the type of cat to greet Sarah at the door, but he does have his own special way of showing affection. About once a day, he approaches her for cuddles, asking for exactly four or five pets before promptly walking away.

When he’s feeling particularly loving, he likes to rest the side of his mouth against her finger and pretend to chomp on it. It is his own weird, wonderful way of saying thank you.

Sarah describes him as weird, lovable, and "not all there." While he might not survive a day in the wild, this unique little cat has found exactly where he belongs.
