Fostering six tiny kittens was a completely new experience for this dog-loving couple. But the biggest surprise came when it was time to introduce the felines to their resident pups.

This dedicated animal lover was no stranger to opening her home to pets in need. She usually spent her time fostering dogs, giving them a safe place to land while they waited for adoption.

But when her boyfriend made a special request, her usual routine was turned upside down. He wanted to try fostering kittens for the very first time.

Taking on six tiny kittens at once felt like a massive undertaking. She couldn’t help but wonder if they were in over their heads and if it would simply be too much work.

Going into the experience, she admitted she wasn’t exactly a “huge cat person.” The prospect of managing a half-dozen felines was slightly intimidating.

She worried about whether she would be able to connect with them the way she did with her foster dogs. But to no one’s surprise, her fears vanished almost immediately.

She quickly became completely obsessed with the tiny, squeaking babies, finding herself drawn to their room at all hours.

Despite her initial reservations, the kittens quickly took over her heart. She found herself constantly seeking them out for affection.

Every thirty minutes, she would sneak away to the bathroom just to cuddle with the little ones. Even her boyfriend was found hiding out in the kitten room, just hanging out with a tiny feline in his arms.

“If you can’t afford therapy, might I suggest fostering kittens?” she joked, noting that the experience genuinely brought her so much joy.

The Resident Dogs

While the humans were thoroughly enjoying the new additions, there was still a major hurdle to cross. How would her resident dogs, Briggy and Ozzie, react to the tiny intruders?

At first, the dogs were very overstimulated by the new smells and sounds in the house. While Briggy was doing quite well, Ozzie was much more worked up than she had anticipated.

She knew she had to handle the introductions with extreme care to keep everyone safe and calm.

Scent Before Sight

She did a ton of research to ensure the dogs and kittens would have a positive experience. They decided to take things incredibly slow.

The first few days were entirely focused on scent. She brought the kittens’ blankets out to the living room, offering the dogs treats while they investigated the new smells.

Next, the dogs were allowed to sniff the kittens through the closed bathroom door, getting used to their presence without any visual contact.

The Baby Gate Milestone

After days of careful scent introductions, it was finally time for the next big step. The dogs were allowed to see the kittens through a baby gate.

She watched closely as Briggy and Ozzie approached the barrier. To her immense relief, they were incredibly gentle.

They sniffed the tiny kittens with soft curiosity, proving that the slow introduction process was working perfectly.

Becoming Best Friends

As their time with the foster kittens progressed, the physical barriers were slowly removed. The dogs were introduced to the kittens more and more each day.

What started as cautious curiosity blossomed into a beautiful friendship. After a few weeks in foster care, the large rescue dogs and the tiny kittens had suddenly become best friends.

Seeing them all interact so peacefully made her feel like the proudest dog mom in the whole world.

A Family Affair

Eventually, the time came for the six kittens to say goodbye and move on to their next chapters. While saying farewell to foster pets is always bittersweet, the experience left a lasting mark on the household.

Her favorite part of the entire journey was realizing how much of a family affair fostering kittens had become. She and her boyfriend loved every single second of the chaotic, heartwarming process.

Best of all, the experience helped shape Briggy and Ozzie into even better foster siblings, perfectly preparing them for all the animals still to come.
