California Shelter Staff Can’t Believe What Their New Kitten Has On Its Little Head

A tiny, scruffy kitten was found on the streets and taken in by the Sacramento SPCA in California.

Despite his rough start, he had such a sweet little soul that anyone would want to scoop him up.

Before he could meet anyone, though, he had to spend some time in quarantine because of ringworm. It wasn’t the warmest welcome, but it was what he needed to get healthy.

Slowly but surely, the little kitten began to bounce back. His fur started to shine, his energy returned, and everyone at the shelter couldn’t wait to finally meet him.

At first, he seemed like any other adorable little kitten: tiny nose, sparkling eyes, soft fur. But then he turned, and the volunteers couldn’t believe what they saw.

Hidden behind his normal ears were two extra flaps. That’s right, this kitten had four ears!

The shelter was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was grinning from ear to ear, and the news spread fast. This was definitely not something you see every day.

Sarah Varanini, the shelter’s communications manager, shared in an interview:

“The multiple ears are likely caused by some sort of rare mutation, so rare that there doesn’t appear to be any … studies regarding it.”

They knew he deserved a name that highlighted just how special he was, so they went with Quattro, the Italian word for four. It suited him perfectly.

You might think extra ears would mean super hearing, like catching a treat bag from blocks away, but that wasn’t the case.

His extra ears were purely for show, cute little fur tufts that didn’t actually work. They didn’t connect to his ear canal at all, as Sarah explained:

“They are extra pieces of skin with fur that poke out on the back side of the primary ears. They do not seem to serve any real function … other than being adorable.”

That cute little accessory made Quattro completely one-of-a-kind. But Quattro wasn’t just about the ears.

His face was a bit narrower, his eyes slightly smaller, and all those tiny quirks added to his irresistible charm. You could just tell he was meant to stand out.

When the shelter shared a video of him online, people went crazy. The internet can’t resist a unique cat, and Quattro’s four ears made him an instant sensation.

It didn’t take long before someone fell in love and knew he had to come home with them.

Quattro’s new dad jumped in his car, drove three hours straight to Sacramento, and was at the shelter bright and early, ready to meet him.

That’s how much he wanted Quattro to be part of his life.

And just like that, the tiny kitten who once spent his days alone, recovering from ringworm, finally had a forever home filled with love.

Quattro’s story truly shows that being a little different can make you truly extraordinary.
