Choosing a cuddly breed is very important. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way. Whenever I had a difficult time, I would relax with my cat Oscar and he would always help me feel better.
Then, when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge due to kidney disease, I felt so alone, and neither my friends nor my family could help me feel better. I was devastated.
I knew that I would never forget Oscar and that he would always have a special place in my heart, but I simply needed a new cuddle buddy who would help me with my nightmares.
I started searching for the perfect cuddly breed. I wanted a Ragdoll because I know they’re the cuddliest little creatures, but at that time I couldn’t find any available Ragdoll kittens.
When I almost gave up, my friend Haley called me and said that she found the perfect Russian Blue kitten for me, and I accepted it. Luckily, everything turned out great because if it weren’t for that Russian Blue Rosie, I think I would never have felt better. She helped me to be a better person and I’m very thankful for that.
Therefore, if you’re looking for a cuddle buddy to keep you company or make you feel better, then you won’t regret choosing one of the following breeds, trust me!

#1 Ragdoll Cat
When talking about cuddling and snuggling, Ragdolls are always the first to get a mention. The reason why they’re called Ragdolls is that they like to be held and carried all the time like baby dolls.
If you’re looking for your first pet cat, I assure you, a Ragdoll won’t disappoint you as they’re the perfect pets for inexperienced cat owners.
#2 Munchkin Cat
The Munchkin cat is a special, cute breed of cat that is characterized by its short legs due to a genetic mutation. Yet, despite their short legs, these kitties are very energetic and active.
They’re very entertaining pets, but most of all, they love to cuddle and snuggle next to their owners and enjoy some bonding time.
#3 Maine Coon
The Maine Coon breed is one of the largest cat breeds. Don’t let their large, wild appearance scare you! They may be very large, but they’re also the sweetest cats ever. They adore cuddling, hence the nickname gentle giants.
My friend Nicole has a black smoke Maine Coon and they have the whole couch reserved just for their cuddles.
#4 Persian Cat
One of the most popular cat breeds, the Persian cat, can actually be your perfect cuddle buddy. Cuddling with this cat will be even better because of its long, soft coat.
They’re very affectionate but not too energetic, which means that they’ll probably be lying in a comfy spot waiting for you to cuddle with them.
#5 Scottish Fold
This unusual-looking kitty will crave your attention. The Scottish Fold breed is characterized by folded ears, hence the name. They’re very sweet and have lovely personalities.
The main reason for this is that Scottish Folds are very loyal to their owners and don’t like to be left alone for too long. Instead, they adore your attention and they love cuddles most of all.
#6 Sphynx Cat
It’s no surprise that Sphynx cats adore cuddles and snuggles. Due to their coat type, they’re usually looking for warm and cozy spots to rest.
However, that’s not the only reason why they love cuddles so much. Sphynx cats are very affectionate and lovely, even though they don’t look like the loveliest cats ever.
#7 RagaMuffin Cat
The RagaMuffin, just like the Ragdoll, is another easy-going breed of cat with a lovely personality who seems to tolerate being picked up and carried around all the time. That’s exactly what makes them perfect cuddlers.
RagaMuffin cats are perfect family pets; if you choose one, make sure it has company all the time. My sister decided to get a RagaMuffin instead of a Ragdoll and she wouldn’t change a thing. Her kids are constantly carrying the cat around and the cat seems to love it.
#8 Birman Cat
The amazing Birman cat looks like a long-haired version of a Siamese cat and it’s not too far away from that.
Birman cats are playful, affectionate cats who like to be in friendly company. Still, their favorite activity is cuddling, and trust me, these cats just can’t get enough of it.
#9 Abyssinian Cat
While Abyssinian cats have exotic looks and a higher energy level, you probably can’t believe that they actually love cuddles, but it’s true. This beautiful breed of cat is very friendly and loyal, and once you get one, all you’ll have will be cuddles and snuggles on repeat.
#10 Devon Rex
The Devon Rex is a gorgeous small breed of cat characterized by their short coat, big eyes, and large ears. This little kitty is very interesting, playful, affectionate, and funny.
They’re highly interested in different activities and are very playful. When playtime is over, most of all they love to snuggle in their owner’s lap and enjoy a cuddle session.
#11 Russian Blue Cat
The Russian Blue cat is a gray stunner of Russian origin. They’re characterized by extremely thick, soft coats and gorgeous green eyes. You’ll simply want to cuddle with this cat fur-ever.
They’re very sweet and gentle but may not be so affectionate towards strangers. If you get yourself a Russian Blue, once it lies in your lap, I’m sure it will never want to leave, just like my Rosie.
#12 American Shorthair Cat
The American Shorthair cat is a perfect example of a family pet. These kitties are very lovely, affectionate felines who function well in active homes.
They adore human company, but they also get along well with other pets and small children, and the cuddles are free for everyone!
#13 Siamese Cat
One of the oldest breeds of cats is the magnificent Siamese cat, which is actually a real cuddler. However, besides being cuddle lovers, they’re also very talkative. So, if you prefer easier and quieter cats, there are many other cuddly breeds that you can choose.
My mom has a Siamese and they are best friends. Luckily, my mom likes talking a lot too, so they’re perfect talkative cuddle buddies.
#14 Bombay Cat
The Bombay cat is a perfect cuddle buddy, especially for those who are looking for black cats.
When it comes to their personality, again, these cats are very sweet and affectionate which is not a surprise considering they resulted from breeding American Shorthair and Burmese cats, who are also known to be cuddle lovers.
#15 Burmese Cat
The Burmese cat is a special breed that enjoys various different types of activities. They’re both playful, and energetic, but even better, they’re very intelligent and can even learn some tricks.
On the other hand, just like everyone else, they like to rest after playtime, and that’s when they want to cuddle with their owners.
#16 Tonkinese Cat
The Tonkinese cat is a feline who needs all of your attention but will provide you with endless cuddles in return. They are very loyal to their owners and like being the center of attention.
This kitty is a perfect pet and cuddle buddy who gets along with almost everyone, even small children and other pets.
See, it’s not true that all cats are independent kings and queens who care only about themselves. There are still lots of lovely, cuddly cats who enjoy all the love and attention.
I think that it all actually depends on every individual cat. However, if you’re looking for a cuddly feline friend, I’m sure you won’t regret getting one of these.
