North Carolina Family Watches In Shock As Their Cat Floats Away On The Roof

When a hurricane hit Western North Carolina, it left a trail of devastation behind. Homes were swallowed by floodwaters, families were uprooted, and entire communities faced losses they never imagined.

But for one family, the devastation ran even deeper.

Their home was destroyed, their belongings lost, but the hardest part was watching their beloved cat, Blanco, swept away by the raging flood.

Blanco hadn’t always been part of the Collins family. Just months before, he was a stray looking for a safe place to rest.

Camille and David Collins first spotted Blanco in a compost bin. He was hesitant at first, but after a few gentle pets, he decided to stay. And just like that, the Collins family of eight became nine.

Life on the farm suited Blanco perfectly. He roamed freely between the five RVs parked on their land and visited each family member throughout the day to make sure all was well.

But one day, everything changed. A hurricane struck without warning and strengthened at a terrifying speed.

In a matter of hours, the Collins’ peaceful farm was at the mercy of the storm. Floodwaters rose within minutes, turning the farm into a disaster zone.

At the time, only David’s mother Nan, and his brother Jonathon were at home. Caught off guard, they tried to move whatever they could to higher ground. But in the chaos, there was no sign of Blanco.

Then, they saw a flash of white. It was Blanco, standing on the roof of the RV, watching the water rise beneath him.

Before they could react, the RV broke free from the ground, carried away by the flood like a toy boat in a raging river.

Blanco clung to it desperately as it smashed into their neighbor’s house. He lost his footing and in an instant, he was gone.

Jonathon ran toward the water desperate to see where Blanco had fallen. But before he could get any closer, power lines crashed down in front of him, cutting him off.

Helpless, he could do nothing but watch as the flood carried Blanco away. It was a sight he wouldn’t forget.

Hearing the news, Camille and David were devastated. Days passed, and the family tried to focus on salvaging what was left of their home.

But then, eight days after the storm, something incredible happened. Jonathon saw something walking through the wreckage. It was so fast that he almost thought he imagined it until he heard a familiar meow. Blanco was alive.

The little cat stood on the roof of their destroyed barn, frozen in place like he wasn’t sure what to do. Nan grabbed some treats and spent an hour coaxing him.

Slowly, he inched closer, until he finally stepped down. Camille shared in an interview:

“He eventually came to the roof of our barn wreckage, and once Nan was able to pet him, he closed his eyes and purred as if it was his first time being pet.”

Collins rushed back to the farm with the kids, and Blanco greeted them with the same affection as always, as if he had never left.

The road to rebuilding their farm is long, and the scars of the storm remain. The flood may have taken much from them, but it hasn’t taken their hope.

Despite the wreckage, one thing is certain: Blanco is safe and right where he belongs.

And for the Collins family, that’s enough to keep them moving forward.
