North Carolina Cat Accidentally Trapped Under Bathroom Remodel Gets Dramatic Rescue
In one North Carolina neighborhood, a home renovation took an unexpected turn when a curious cat found himself in a very tricky situation.
The Surf City Fire Department received a call that was far from ordinary. Instead of a house fire or medical emergency, they were asked to rescue a cat, but this was no simple rescue.
The cat had become trapped beneath a newly remodeled shower, sealed inside without anyone realizing what had happened.
The owners, who had just finished updating their bathroom, began to worry when their beloved cat suddenly disappeared.
Unbeknownst to them or the workers, the cat had slipped into the construction area and crawled under the floorboards just before everything was sealed up.
By the time the renovation was complete, the cat was trapped inside, hidden from sight. The fire department shared the story on Facebook:
“We never know what kind of calls we will be paged out to. Sometimes our furry friends need our help. Yesterday 23-b shift responded to a cat sealed under the floorboards after a shower remodel.”
Hours passed, and the homeowners searched every corner of their house, but the cat was nowhere to be found.
Their worry turned into panic when they finally heard desperate meows coming from beneath the new shower. That’s when they called in the fire crew.
The firefighters arrived quickly, armed with crowbars and power tools. They carefully dismantled parts of the shower, taking great care to avoid further distress to the frightened feline.
One by one, floorboards were lifted, and every layer of the newly installed shower was carefully removed. The department explained:
“From our understanding when they were working on the floor the cat climbed down in the hole without anyone knowing. Then when it was covered up no one knew the cat was in there.”
Photos shared by the crew showed the extent of the work required to free the trapped kitty: torn-up floorboards and a hole where the shower once stood, revealing the careful effort taken to rescue the little cat.
Finally, after what must have felt like an eternity for the family, the cat emerged safely. Thankfully, it was unharmed.
Though the owners were dismayed by the damage to their new shower, their gratitude toward the firefighters was immeasurable.
One firefighter even formed a quick bond with the rescued cat, captured in a touching photo of the man cradling the feline in his arms.
Both looked calm and content, a small moment of joy after a stressful ordeal.
