When Eden, a frightened tabby cat, arrived at an animal shelter with another cat, no one knew what was about to happen.
The only thing the shelter staff knew was that they needed to help her relax and come out of her shell.
Eden’s companion got adopted as soon as they arrived at the shelter, however, she was not that fortunate. She spent her days hiding under a stool in her kennel, extending her stay at the shelter.
Despite Eden’s behavior, the shelter staff was determined to gain her trust, so they slowly began the socialization process.
Once Eden felt a touch of love and care, she instantly transformed. She arched her back and began kneading, enjoying all the scratches and attention she was receiving.
When Eden finally became more comfortable and relaxed around the humans, Heidi Shoemaker, a founder of Foster Kitten Mama, decided to take her to a foster home.
Heidi, compassionate and determined as she is, spent hours sitting next to Eden comforting and helping her relax in her new surroundings. She gave her flea treatments, delicious food, fresh water, and plenty of alone time to settle in.
But what happened the next day took Heidi by surprise. She entered the room to find Eden lying in her nesting box, preparing for labor.
Although shocked to learn Eden had been pregnant all along, Heidi stayed by her side, supporting her through the delivery.
Eden gave birth to three adorable kittens: two black-and-white kittens, Evan and Everette, and a black kitten named Elysse. Heidi continued to care for Eden and her babies, sharing in an interview:
“I covered half of her pen over her nesting box, which seemed to help give her more security. Not all mamas know what to do right away, and Eden was definitely one of those. But, with help, she’s now doing exactly what she needs to for her little ones to grow and thrive.”
As Eden saw Heidi’s continuous support, she began to warm up to her, stepping out of her shell more each day. Heidi added:
“Eden is getting so much better the more I sit with her. It just takes patience, compassion, and time to undo the bad things that have happened to them.”
Eden is a loving and caring mother, but as soon as her babies get adopted, she will be spayed, ready for a new and fresh start in life. Hopefully, she will find happiness with a family who will love her just as she deserves.
