California Kitty Surpasses Everyone’s Expectations After A Life-Threatening Brain Surgery

Get ready to meet a sweet little cat who’s finally enjoying the happy life she deserves. Her journey hasn’t been easy though, and you might be surprised by what she’s been through.
Milly, a gentle kitty, was born with several challenges – an enlarged head known as hydrocephalus, a malformed front leg caused by radial aplasia, and a small overbite.
Because of these conditions, she required a special helmet and a carefully padded space to keep her protected, which soon earned her the nickname ‘Helmet Queen.’

Despite these severe health conditions, Milly was the sweetest and most cuddly feline ever. She was just trying to live her life to the fullest. Her foster mom, Caroline, said:
“I wish everyone could meet Milly! She’s so special, and she literally radiates love and joy. She loves everyone and wears her heart on her sleeve.”

At just two months old, Milly was given away for free, but it quickly became clear that she needed more care than expected.
That’s when she was brought to Baby Kitten Rescue. Sadly, many kittens with conditions like hers don’t get the chance to survive, but Milly proved to be extraordinary.
Even more, she was lucky enough to land in a home with plenty of experience in looking after kittens with special needs.

Before Milly came along, another special kitten named Otter had been cared for, facing a very similar condition. He also needed to wear a helmet until he was able to have a successful surgery.
Milly, however, had a slightly different case. While she had a large head, her fontanelle, or soft spot on the skull, was already closed, which meant that fluid building up in her brain created additional pressure.
Treating her required a delicate and risky surgery that involved advanced medical technology. What amazed everyone most was Milly’s spirit.
Even with such serious health challenges, she stayed playful, loving, and full of affection each day. Just as Otter had been known as the ‘Helmet King,’ Milly proudly became the ‘Helmet Queen.’

Milly’s surgery was both risky and expensive, but the entire team hoped for the best. People fell in love with her charming personality and did their best to give her a second chance at life. The team said:
“This is by far the most expensive surgery we’ve ever provided. But Milly is worth it. Her life matters. And she has the chance to live a full, healthy, and happy life if she gets this surgery! So we are going to give her that chance.”

Thankfully, the brain surgery went incredibly well, thanks to the professional team. As far as Milly was concerned, she sailed through it brilliantly. The rescue team said:
“I’m SO grateful Milly had the opportunity to receive this surgery!!! Up until very recently, hydrocephalus was a death sentence for cats and dogs. But thanks to progressive veterinarians like Dr. O’Neill at Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital, kitties like Milly now have the chance at living a full, healthy, and happy life with shunt surgery!”

Although Milly came through the surgery safely and without complications, her journey was far from over. She still faced a slow and lengthy recovery process, taking each step one day at a time.
But Milly proved to be a fighter and impressed everyone with her progress. The rescue said:
“I was astounded by how smoothly Milly recovered and never once lost her spark and joy. After her surgery, we slowly started weaning Milly off of the medications she had been on for months to control her hydrocephalus.”

Following her successful surgery, Milly not only received a second chance at life but also found her forever home. The rescue team happily announced:
“Milly was adopted by the most amazing couple. She will be the queen of her home, like she wants and deserves. Her mommy & daddy work from home most of the time, so she will get all the snuggles and attention she could ever want.”
I couldn’t be happier for Milly, because after all the challenges she’s faced, she has more than earned the joy and comfort she now gets to enjoy.
