LA Rescuers Save A Stray Cat Moments Before She Delivers The Furriest Surprise
Stray cats often wear their past like a badge of survival, each one with a story written in every scar and scratch.
Freya, a gentle black cat from Las Vegas, is one of those souls. For years, she wandered through alleys and parking lots, fending for herself and dreaming of a soft place to rest.
Life on the streets had made her cautious, yet beneath that wary exterior was a heart that had never stopped hoping for kindness.
With her right ear folded back and her strikingly large eyes, Freya quickly became the beloved stray of one neighborhood in Las Vegas.
While kind-hearted people would feed and cuddle her, no one was able to offer her a forever home.
Then, one woman began to notice Freya’s belly growing larger each day. Realizing that kittens were on the way, the woman couldn’t bear the thought of Freya giving birth on the streets.
The woman contacted the local shelter, Homeward Bound Cat Adoption, and the wonderful staff quickly informed one of their foster volunteers about Freya. She was more than happy to step in and help.
Ellen Richter, a seasoned foster mom who had been caring for cats and kittens for as long as she could remember, welcomed Freya into what would be the best foster home she could ask for.
Although she had a sweet personality, Freya was afraid at first. As Ellen shared on Instagram:
“She’s nervous and unsure of what’s going on. I’m letting her relax and get comfortable with me. It will be any day now that she gives birth. I’m so thankful she has a safe place to be.”
Freya spent her first night curled up in the bathroom sink, but soon found the courage to venture out and explore her new surroundings.
She wasted no time in seeking out Ellen for some cuddles before setting off to explore the house.
The next morning, Ellen woke up to an amazing surprise! While everyone had been asleep, Freya had given birth to six healthy kittens!
Ellen was shocked that she did it all by herself, but Freya did an amazing job. As Ellen shared in a post:
“Mama gave birth this morning to 6 little angels. She’s an amazing mom and knew exactly what to do.”
The sweet little family spent their first week snuggled up with their mom, while Ellen made sure they had everything they needed to thrive.
She made a cozy and warm spot for Freya and the furry family was thriving, as Ellen said in an update:
“Mama Freya is still making air biscuits. Kittens are starting to crawl, mama is a bit anxious with all that movement.”
Freya and her kittens will remain with Ellen, receiving all the love and care they need until it’s time for them to find their forever homes.
