Abandoned Puppy Found Hiding On Busy Highway In Missouri Learns What It Means To Be Loved

What started out as just another hectic day on the roads of Missouri turned into a life-changing moment for one tiny soul.
The call came into Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) about a small dog spotted dangerously close to traffic on a busy interstate.

The team knew that every minute mattered for such a vulnerable pup surrounded by so much danger.
When rescuers arrived, the roar of cars and trucks echoed all around them. Beneath the concrete overpass, they spotted a tiny face peeking out from a narrow alcove.
His blonde fur and wide, frightened eyes told the whole story. This little one had been hiding, trying to make himself invisible, while the world rushed past him.

The sight broke their hearts. The pup lay on the cold cement with no food, no water, and no one to comfort him. He looked exhausted, his chin resting on the ground.
No one knew how long he had been there or how he ended up in such a dangerous place.
Maybe he had been abandoned. Maybe he got lost and couldn’t find his way back. What mattered most was that his rescuers had found him, and they were determined to get him out safely.

With patience and gentle voices, they coaxed him forward. Soon, they were able to slip a leash over his head and guide him out of hiding. Everyone was so relieved.
Back at SRSL headquarters, he received a full medical exam. To their surprise, the vet determined that this young Pyrenees mix, only about three years old, was in good health despite the ordeal.
That cleared the way for him to start the next chapter of his journey: foster care. George and Vicki Dunn, a couple well known in the community for opening their home to animals in need, welcomed the pup with open arms and named him Remi.

George explained how quickly Remi began to open up in their care, sharing in comments on SRSL’s Facebook post:
“He is a sweet boy that has popped out of his shell since coming home with us. He is so playful and already has a family that is excited to have him join their family as soon as he is altered.”
And indeed, Remi thrived. Walks became adventures, naps became safe and cozy, and playtime was full of joy. The once-scared pup who hid under a highway now wagged his tail freely, knowing he was finally surrounded by love.

Remi still has one more step before his adoption can be finalized: neutering. But that didn’t stop his future forever family from already falling head over heels for him.
His soon-to-be mom, Ellen Pendry, can’t wait to bring him home for good.
From trembling in fear beneath a noisy overpass to being cherished and cared for by people who saw his worth, Remi’s story shows how everything can change when compassion steps in.
