NY Family Surrenders Their Cat To Shelter After 7 Years And Staff Can’t Believe The Explanation
Shelter workers see heartbreaking situations every day, but some stories stay with them longer than others.
That was the case with Tigger Tim, an orange tabby brought to New York City Animal Care and Control after spending seven years with the family he likely believed would be forever.
Losing a home after that much time is painful enough. But when his owner explained why they were giving him up, the reason left shelter staff shocked, and made Tigger Tim’s story even harder to forget.

She shared that her family was buying a new couch, and they decided it would be easier to give up their cat than risk damage to the furniture.
The shelter staff were stunned by this “sofa situation,” but there was no question – they had to take in the helpless cat.
The owner even signed surrender papers, acknowledging that Tim could face euthanasia.

At just three months old, Tim was placed with a loving family, hoping this would be the home he could finally call his own.
Confused and frightened, he didn’t understand what was happening or that his owner wouldn’t be coming back. As the previous owner walked away, the little cat let out a heart-wrenching cry of distress.
As suggested by the paperwork, the worst-case scenario came to reality, and Tim was soon listed for euthanasia. Luckily, a rescue group, Magnificat, showed up at the last moment to save Tim’s life.

After being rescued, the shaken cat was taken into his first foster home, where he received all the love and care anyone could offer. Yet, Tim’s little heart remained heavy, unable to heal from the trauma he had endured.
As hours turned into days, the painful truth sank in – he would never be going back to his old home. Overwhelmed by the cruelty of being abandoned for a sofa, he sank into despair.
Tim refused food and water and spent his days curled up in a corner, struggling to understand why his love and trust had been so cruelly betrayed.

Determined to help him recover, his foster family lavished Tim with affection and attention.
But just when it seemed he was starting to heal emotionally, his story took a heartbreaking twist that left many following his journey in shock.
Though Tim began to open up and bond with his foster family, his physical health was worsening.

Concerned, they rushed him to the veterinary clinic, desperate to uncover the cause of his mysterious illness and find a way to save him.
Sadly, after multiple tests, the veterinarians delivered devastating news. Tim had cancer.
Those who had rescued and cared for him were left questioning whether his previous owner had been aware of his illness when she abandoned him at the shelter.

A month later, Tim quietly passed away, cradled in the arms of his devoted foster mom. During his final weeks, he was surrounded by love, care, and comfort.
His last days were calm and filled with affection, and he knew that, despite all he had endured, he was truly cherished.
