Brooklyn Residents Peek Into A Hole Between Buildings And See Tiny Paws Climbing Out

A recent event in a Brooklyn neighborhood led to a challenging rescue mission. It all started when a couple of residents heard strange sounds coming from a hole between two buildings.

Concerned, they decided to follow the noise and found a cold, dirty den. When they looked inside, they were shocked to see tiny paws climbing out…

Rescuing The Furry Residents From The Hole

Inside the cold and dirty den was an entire feline family –  a mother cat and her three kittens. Worried about their safety, the residents immediately called for help.

They contacted Whiskers-A-GoGo, a cat rescue, and volunteers quickly stepped in.

After the inspection, Leanne, a volunteer with the rescue, shared in an interview:

“These little gray and white kittens were already starting to climb out of the hole and onto the sidewalk near a busy street. There was no time to waste.”

With the cats’ lives at risk, the rescuers had no time to waste. They quickly embarked on a rescue mission. Leanne added:

“We were there in less than 24 hours, and with the help of tuna, baked chicken, and a neighbor with a screwdriver to move the garbage bins, we trapped the mom and scooped up the kittens.”

After much effort, the rescuers managed to capture the entire furry family. While the mother cat stayed cautious, the kittens quickly warmed up to people, likely due to their young age.

The feline family was taken to the rescue, where they received all the care and help they needed. To everyone’s surprise, they adjusted quickly to their new environment. Leanne shared:

“They settled in really well, and the mom, later named Bay Ridge Mama, didn’t give me any grief when I weighed them every day. She did stand at the door and stare me down. An occasional hiss just to remind me who’s boss.”

Bay Ridge Mama took her role as a mother very seriously. She had a great appetite, gaining strength to feed her hungry trio. Leanne added:

“She cleans them, cuddles them. Sometimes, she takes a break on top of the little hiding box while the kittens are resting.”

Over time, with proper care, the three kittens blossomed. With each passing day, they grew bigger, stronger and more playful.

They began playing and wrestling with each other, and they even quickly mastered using the litter box. However, what happened next was completely unexpected…

An Unexpected Addition To The Feline Family

While Bay Ridge Mama’s family settled in, Leanne found four gray kittens in front of a random house.

At first, Leanne waited to see if their mother would return. But after waiting all day, she stepped in, gently scooped up the kittens, and took them home.

Since the kittens were very young and needed round-the-clock care, Leanne decided to introduce them to Bay Ridge Mama, hoping she would accept them as her own. She said:

“I introduced them to Bay Ridge Mama, asking her very politely if she wouldn’t mind feeding four more mouths. She took care of them right away.”

To her delight, Bay Ridge Mama accepted the new kittens, but they still needed extra care. At night, Leanne bottle-fed the newborn kittens while Bay Ridge Mama supervised. Leanne added:

“She made some growly noises and just sat there, staring me down when I fed them. When I gave them back to her, she cleaned them up. Even her kittens cuddled with them.”

Despite this, Leanne and her colleagues never stopped searching for the gray kittens’ mom.

Happy Ending For Everyone

After some time, they finally found the mother cat, brought her to the rescue, and successfully reunited her with her babies.

In the meantime, Bay Ridge Mama adapted to indoor life and human presence. She stopped hiding and began to feel comfortable around her foster mom. Leanne shared happily:

“She likes to be pet, likes scratches behind the ears, on her back, and the base of her tail. She even leans into it.”

Whenever Leanne enters the room, Bay Ridge Mama walks right up to her to greet her, hoping for something delicious in return.

Soon, she and her kittens will be ready to start anew, find loving families, and live the happy lives they all deserve!
