Georgia Woman Finds 43 Cats Abandoned At Her New Home, Yet One Fragile Senior Reveals A Beautiful Surprise
A new homeowner was stunned to discover dozens of cats left behind on her property, but her dedication to saving them led to a beautiful friendship with a senior kitty.
A Shocking Discovery On Moving Day
Moving into a new house is supposed to be a joyous milestone. You expect to find empty rooms, a fresh start, and a quiet space to make your own.
But for Faye, moving day came with a massive, unexpected responsibility waiting right on her porch.
What started as a single stray cat quickly multiplied into a heartbreaking situation that would change her life forever.
"So we bought our house and the day we moved in, she was waiting," Faye recalled about her first moments at the property. Soon, two more cats appeared from the shadows.
Then five more emerged, slowly revealing the massive scale of the problem. Over the course of just a few weeks, Faye realized there were 43 cats left behind on the property.
The previous owner had intentionally kept it a secret, even telling a neighbor they planned not to inform the new buyers. It was a complete surprise as the felines scattered around the yard.
Stepping Up For The Vulnerable
Faye didn’t turn her back on the massive colony. Instead, she immediately rolled up her sleeves and got to work.
Within the first week of moving in, she started finding fragile neonatal kittens hidden around the property.
She began feeding the entire colony right away to ensure no one went hungry as they navigated their new reality.
For the tiniest babies, Faye brought them inside and started round-the-clock bottle feeding to save their lives.
Coming In From The Cold
Among the massive group of cats was a senior feline Faye named Meemaw.
Faye showed Meemaw the indoors a couple of times, gently giving her the chance to see what life as an inside kitty could be like.
At first, the older cat wasn’t quite ready to make the leap and commit to indoor living.
But right before the temperatures dropped for the winter, Meemaw stood at the door and finally asked to come inside.
A Life Of Newfound Luxury
Once Meemaw was indoors, Faye made sure she lived like absolute royalty.
"We figure she’s never had options, so we want to give her options," Faye explained about her care approach.
Meemaw was given her own cat condo, her own bathroom, and a private litter box.
She even received her own private set of stairs so she could easily climb onto Faye’s bed whenever she wanted.
Leaving No Cat Behind
While Meemaw was settling into her luxurious indoor life, Faye was still working hard to help the rest of the colony.
The group was a mix of both friendly and feral cats, making the rescue effort a massive undertaking.
It took about a year and a half of dedicated work, but Faye eventually managed to bring every single cat inside.
Today, not a single cat is left outside, though the house is certainly full of feline friends in every corner.
The Respected Matriarch
With dozens of cats living under one roof, you might expect chaos. But the colony has a beautiful dynamic, especially when it comes to Meemaw.
The other cats seem to inherently know that she is the oldest and perhaps a bit more fragile than the rest.
They never try to roughhouse with her. Instead, they are incredibly gentle, sweet, and respectful of her space.
If Meemaw is coming down the stairs, the other cats will actually part ways to let her safely pass through.
Comforting Bad Dreams
Despite her safe new life, Meemaw still carries some invisible scars from her time outside.
When she falls asleep and wakes up in the dark, she often starts crying, a cycle that some mistake for dementia.
Faye believes it’s simply bad dreams, and she is always ready to step in and offer comfort.
"As soon as I hear her start, I will try to hold her paw or pet her," Faye shared, noting that a gentle interruption helps Meemaw fall right back to sleep.
A Very Special Bond
When Faye isn’t close by to soothe Meemaw’s night terrors, another resident cat named Sprinkle steps up to the plate.
Sprinkle will run from anywhere in the house the moment he hears Meemaw cry, snuggling up to comfort her back to sleep.
Amazingly, Sprinkle is the only cat in the entire house that Meemaw allows to snuggle with her.
For Faye, the bond with the senior cat is deeply personal, as Meemaw reminds her of her late grandmother. "She’s a great lady," Faye smiled. "She’s like my best friend."
