Indiana Woman Cleaning Empty Home Finds Heartbreaking Scene In Basement Laundry Basket

Woman Cleaning Empty Home Finds Heartbreaking Scene

While tidying up an empty house in Indiana, a woman spotted something she never expected.

Tucked in a laundry basket down in the basement was a mama cat curled around her five tiny kittens.

As she stepped closer, her heart dropped. The little family had been left completely alone. No food, no water, nothing. They were clearly trying to survive on their own.

Lori White, a volunteer with the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, an animal rescue organization in Indiana, received a call about the kittens.

Recalling the event, she shared:

“She found a cat and her babies in a laundry basket, with no food or water to be found in the house. The house was locked with a lockbox, so I don’t know how long they were left there.”

Fortunately, the woman who discovered them knew they needed help. As Lori explained:

“She scooped them up and took them home to feed the mom and work on finding a rescue to take them.”

The poor mother cat was extremely thin, weak, and starving, but was doing her best to feed and care for her kittens.

Thanks to the quick action of the woman, the kittens and mom received food and a warm, safe place to rest.

After a meal, the mother cat curled up to care for her kittens in a clean, cozy spot.

Despite the tough situation, the kittens were in good health, well-fed, and clean. But the woman thought it was best to place them in the hands of a more experienced caregiver.

She contacted the local shelter, and ARPO responded. Lori received the family and shared her gratitude, saying:

“She dropped them off to me, and I was thankful she took the time to help them and took action to get them safe.”

It was unclear how the cat had ended up in the vacant house, but she was incredibly sweet and loving.

As the kittens and mother settled in, their presence filled the room with soft meows, purring, and the sound of kittens suckling.

Lori found that all four kittens were female ginger cats, and she decided to name them after the Golden Girls: Rose, Sophia, Dorothy, and Blanche, with their mom named Goldie. Lori mentioned:

“It’s pretty rare for a ginger to be female (about 20%) so having four ginger girls is super special! I couldn’t resist going with the Golden Girls theme – Momma Goldie Girl and her Golden Girls.”

Over time, the kittens grew bigger and more curious, always exploring.

They were full of energy and played around the house, and their mother, Goldie, made sure they were always well-cared for, keeping them clean and well-fed.

Had the woman not discovered them in the basement, who knows what might have happened to this tiny family?

Thanks to quick action and compassion, Goldie and her kittens have found a safe, loving home where they can grow, thrive, and be cherished.
