Grieving Woman Finds A Tiny Sick Kitten In Kentucky Cornfield And Her World Turns Around

While out for her usual jog in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kelly DeWeese had no idea that her morning run would turn into the start of a life-changing adventure.

She was walking through a nearby cornfield, trying to deal with the loss of her mom, when she spotted a tiny calico kitten curled up among the tall stalks.

Expecting her to bolt at any moment, Kelly cautiously approached. But instead of running away, the little furball stayed put and even let Kelly pet her.

It was clear she needed help, and Kelly knew she couldn’t leave her behind.

The kitten, whom Kelly named Snickers after a candy wrapper she noticed nearby, was in rough shape.

She was covered in fleas, had ear mites, weepy eyes, and a hoarse little meow.

Without hesitation, Kelly scooped her up and brought her home. She gave her a warm bath and prepared her for a vet visit the following morning.

At the clinic, the vet found that Snickers, only about five months old, had a sinus infection. Antibiotics were prescribed, and Kelly followed the treatment plan diligently.

But as the days went on, Snickers’ condition failed to improve.

With no one claiming her, Kelly faced a heart-wrenching decision: either agree to euthanize her or adopt her and take on the cost and effort of seeing a specialist.

Feeling a deep connection to Snickers, Kelly decided to give her a fighting chance. She believed her late mother had somehow guided her to the kitten.

So she took Snickers to a specialist, who was a two-hour drive away in Louisville, Kentucky.

A CT scan revealed the real problem: Snickers had large polyps in her inner ears and behind her eyes. She needed two major surgeries, spaced six weeks apart.

Kelly committed to every step, despite the cost and risks. The first surgery went smoothly, but during the second, a problem occurred.

A polyp slipped into Snickers’ throat, causing her to lose consciousness for about fifteen seconds. The vet team acted quickly, performed CPR, and successfully removed it.

But when Snickers woke up after the surgery, she couldn’t see.

The vet asked Kelly if she wanted to put her down, given the challenges of caring for a blind kitten.

Kelly’s answer was a resounding no. She wasn’t about to give up on her little companion.

Weeks passed, and Kelly noticed something remarkable. Snickers, who had been blind, started reacting to visual cues.

She followed the toys Kelly waved in front of her and navigated her surroundings with growing confidence. A follow-up visit confirmed the miracle: Snickers’ vision was back.

From that moment, she blossomed into a healthy, playful, and joyful kitten. Her resilient spirit shone through.

Kelly reflects on how perfectly timed their meeting was. Snickers arrived in her life just when she needed comfort the most.

To Kelly, it felt as if her mother had sent Snickers to her, as she shared in a YouTube video:

“I’ve always felt that my mother was watching out for me. She knew I needed Snickers as much as Snickers needed me.”

Today, Snickers is a happy, thriving cat with a personality as vibrant as her markings.

She loves playing fetch, exploring around the house, cuddling on the couch with Kelly, and even mimicking her mom’s movements.

Kelly and Snickers didn’t just save each other; they created a bond that will last a lifetime.
