Houston Rescuers Rush To Save A Sick Dog On The Brink Of Starvation Before It’s Too Late

This poor dog was truly on the brink of starvation.
When Monique saw his picture, something in her just stopped. He looked so broken, so fragile… so defeated.
His thin body, sunken eyes, it was clear he had been through more than any living creature should ever have to endure.
She couldn’t stop thinking about him, and then thought: “What’s one more?”

Monique already had her hands full, but she couldn’t turn away. She knew deep in her heart that this dog needed someone. He needed help now. So she went to get him.
At first, things seemed okay. For the first two, maybe three days, he was doing better than expected. He was eating a little, resting a lot, and showing signs of improvement.
But just as quickly as things got better, they started to fall apart.

He suddenly stopped eating. And when he did manage to eat something, he couldn’t keep it down. He was constantly nauseous and clearly in distress.
Monique knew something was really wrong.
At the vet, initial exams didn’t reveal the problem, but it was obvious he was suffering. His digestion wasn’t working properly, and they couldn’t quite figure out why. So they went back and this time, they did X-rays.

And that’s when they found it: a serious obstruction in his abdomen. The vomiting got worse. He couldn’t hold anything down, and his condition rapidly declined.
Monique called the vet again, letting her know that the injection they tried hadn’t helped at all, he wasn’t getting better. That’s when the vet gave her the hard truth, that they were in trouble!
Chance needed surgery. ASAP.
They rushed him to the animal hospital. The situation was extremely serious.

He wasn’t just malnourished, he was severely underweight, sick, anemic, and heartworm-positive. His little body had been through so much, and now it had to face a high-risk operation just to survive.
The vet told Monique the truth: the surgery would be risky. Very risky. But without it, Chance had no chance at all.

That’s actually how he got his name, Chance. Everyone involved wanted to give him one. Just one shot at life.
Monique knew the odds were against them. She knew this could be the last time she ever saw him. But she wasn’t ready to give up. She stayed by his side, petting him gently, and in the video we hear her speaking softly to him before the surgery:
“Can you fight? Yes. You can do that for me. I need you to be strong.”
She tried to stay positive, even though in the back of her mind, she feared this might be goodbye.
The surgery took five long hours. The vets removed 12 inches of damaged intestine. Chance was placed in the ICU for three days.

And then… something amazing happened.
The first day after surgery, Chance was still lethargic. He looked like he was in pain. But even so, there was a flicker of something in him, something that said he wasn’t done yet.
By the second day, he was walking a little. There was a bit of pep in his step. He even started begging for food.

Just like that, Chance began to turn around.
He started gaining weight almost immediately. His energy came back. His spirit came back. Monique couldn’t believe how fast things were changing. Monique was overjoyed:
“How quickly he turned around.”
I bet it was amazing to see it.

Now, Chance is thriving. Living his best life. He’s happy, strong, and full of love. He’s an absolute trooper, a real fighter, who just wanted to survive… and finally got the chance to live.
The vet later told Monique that she’d operated on a lot of dogs over the years, but Chance was the worst case she had ever seen. She even called him a walking miracle.
Because that’s exactly what he is.
From that point on, Chance was unstoppable.
He spent the next several weeks recovering with Monique, his foster mommy and his hero. Every day, he grew stronger. He played. He napped in the sunshine. He ate like a champ. And he never stopped fighting to live the life he had nearly lost.
Monique gave him everything he needed to heal: love, safety, care, and hope.
And then, the day came when Chance got something even more incredible.
A forever home.

After everything he had been through, from the brink of starvation to a miraculous recovery, Chance was adopted by a loving family who saw exactly what Monique saw in him: a gentle soul who deserved a lifetime of happiness.
