Missouri Woman Heartbroken After Finding Ice-Cold Puppy In A Box On The Brink Of Survival

The team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis received a message no one ever wants to read: a tiny puppy had been discovered crammed into a cardboard box.

The little guy was so cold, it was hard to tell if he was even alive.

A woman had come across the box and, opening it, found the fragile, starving pup curled up inside, barely moving, his little body freezing. He wasn’t moving, and his body was icy.

But the picture she sent came with the smallest spark of hope. SRSL wrote on Facebook:

“[H]e’s still breathing. [W]e’re ready for him.”

And they meant it. The second the puppy arrived, the whole team dropped what they were doing. They’d seen the photo, but seeing him in person… that hit different.

He looked like he’d been holding on by a single thread. That’s how bad it was; their thermometer literally couldn’t register his temperature.

But no one hesitated. They moved like a well-oiled rescue machine, all hands on this tiny, fading life, as they explained on Facebook:

“He’s so cold we weren’t able to get his temperature to read. We warmed him with as many heat sources as we could – warm water beneath him, warm towels, a heating pad, warm fluids, and a bear hugger, but it’s going to take some time.”

They named him Renlo. And even with all the heat and love they were pouring into him, his temperature kept dipping.

By the end of the night, they transferred him to an overnight care facility, where he could get constant monitoring and the support he desperately needed, sharing:

“We decided to take him to an overnight care facility – and their amazing team all jumped into action so fast.”

And guess what? Renlo hung in there. This little fighter made it through the night and returned to SRSL for more treatment.

Step by tiny step, he began to climb back into life. Just three days after being rescued, he stood up for a short walk, shaky, slow, but determined.

Even when he couldn’t keep his legs under him, his nurses stayed right by his side, giving him every ounce of love and patience he needed.

Renlo still had a long recovery ahead, but thankfully, he wasn’t going to face it in a loud shelter. He was welcomed into a medical foster home where he could finally rest without all the noise and stress.

Renlo settled into foster life like he’d been waiting for it his whole life. He’s still thin and working on getting stronger, but now he has soft blankets, warm laps, and people who adore him.

His second chance isn’t just a possibility; it’s already happening.

Because of SRSL’s dedication and his amazing foster family, Renlo is bouncing back fast. In a few months, he’ll be strong enough to find his forever home.

For now, though, he’s soaking up every bit of love he can get. And after everything he survived, that’s exactly what he deserves: warmth, comfort, and a whole world of bright days ahead.
