A tiny kitten found under a deck faced an uncertain future due to his special needs, but a dedicated foster mom helped him find his footing, and his forever home.
An Unexpected Message
It all started with a few digital notifications.
When Andy first started receiving pictures and videos of a little baby kitten named Charlie, her heart immediately sank in the best way possible. “I was like, oh no, I’m in trouble,” she recalled.
The tiny feline had been found outside under a deck alongside his littermates.
Knowing he needed immediate help, rescuers brought the fragile family to a local animal rescue in Kansas, setting the stage for a remarkable journey.
A Diagnosis Of Wobbles
It quickly became apparent that Charlie was a little different from his siblings.
The tiny kitten was diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasia, commonly known as wobbly cat syndrome. The condition, which kittens are born with, causes the cerebellum in their brain to be underdeveloped.
Because of this underdevelopment, Charlie struggles with balance and is remarkably wobbly on his feet.
Thankfully, the condition does not cause him any pain or dizziness, leaving him free to enjoy life in his own unique way.
Stepping Up To Save A Life
Despite his painless condition, Charlie’s special needs put him in a very vulnerable position.
Andy knew that animals with neurological conditions often face grim outcomes in crowded shelter environments. “Because of his special needs, you definitely want to get them out of the shelter or they will be put down,” she explained.
Determined to give him a fighting chance, Andy made the life-saving decision to step in.
She officially signed up to foster Charlie, opening her home to the tiny, fragile kitten.
Battling Tummy Troubles
When Charlie first arrived at Andy’s home, he was incredibly small, weighing in at under a single pound.
Beyond his wobbly walk, the tiny kitten was suffering from a host of other health issues.
He was experiencing severe stomach problems, prompting Andy to rush him to the veterinarian as quickly as possible.
After doing a deep dive into some testing, the veterinary team discovered that Charlie was battling a severe bacterial infection in his intestines.

He started getting himself up and around with much more ease, proving to his foster mom just how awesome he truly was.

With his health finally in check, Charlie’s incredible spirit blossomed.
Andy quickly realized that he had one of the most amazing personalities she had ever encountered in a feline. “I know he’s a kitten, but this is another level of kitten that I have experienced,” she shared.
He proved to be incredibly smart, playful, and exceptionally sweet with all the other kitties in the house.
He even bonded with Willy Wonky, Andy’s other special needs cat who also has a neurological disorder that causes him to wobble.
The Wobbly Zoomies
Charlie moves through life with total blissful ignorance about his condition.
He simply wants to be everybody’s friend and genuinely doesn’t know that he is any different from a typical cat.
He is incredibly resilient; if he runs and bumps into a wall, he brushes it off and keeps right on going.
When he gets bursts of energy, Andy says he experiences “the zoomies plus crazy wobbles,” sending him joyfully all over the place.
Reaching New Heights
While he can do almost everything a normal cat can do, jumping up on furniture remains a challenge.
He certainly tries his hardest, but his wobbly back legs just won’t allow him to make the leap.
Instead, he has developed a clever system to ask for help, tapping on Andy’s foot or grabbing it to get her attention.
Sometimes, he’ll just take a flying leap toward the couch, trusting that his foster mom will be there to catch him and help him up.
The Ultimate Game Over
Over time, the bond between Andy and the bunny-soft kitten has grown into something truly profound.
They have learned to communicate their needs to one another perfectly; Charlie knows when Andy is sad and needs extra love, and she always knows exactly what he needs to feel secure.
Andy initially approached the situation with the strict mindset that she was only going to foster him until he found a family.
But watching him grow stronger every day brought her so much happiness that she and her husband realized they were already his family. “I fell so madly in love and my husband and I were like, game over, he’s staying,” she smiled.
