Indianapolis Kitten Marked ‘Immediate’ Works Her Magic And Gets Her Biggest Dream Come True
Lori White, a volunteer with the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership (ARPO), was just stopping by her local shelter for a routine visit.
She already had several foster kittens at home and hadn’t planned on taking in more. But fate had other plans.
During her visit, Lori met a tiny, energetic kitten that immediately captured her heart.
The kitten, named Lavender at the time, was marked as ‘immediate’ because the shelter was running out of space. Lori explained in an interview:
“I went to look at the kittens in need for other fosters, and this little girl (Lavender) was marked as ‘immediate’ due to lack of space. Single kittens are hard on shelters because they have one small kitten taking up an entire cage.”
When Lori reached into the cage to pet Lavender, the little kitten’s purring instantly filled the room. It was so sweet!
Even though she hadn’t planned on fostering another kitten, she couldn’t ignore this sweet, blue-eyed girl. She brought her to her office and gave her a cozy space until it was time to meet her resident cats.
Lavender adapted quickly. She seemed right at home as Lori’s unofficial office assistant. Lori shared:
“She is having a great time being my office assistant, hanging out in her bed, and playing in my office during her quarantine time. She purrs at all times and is quite the hopper.”
From the moment she arrived, Lavender’s playful, mischievous personality started to shine.
She leapt into Lori’s lap and made sure she had all the attention she could get.
Work may have been a little tricky with a kitten wrapped around her hand or on her lap, but Lori didn’t mind. Lavender brought so much energy and joy, lighting up both the office and Lori’s heart.
When it was time to meet the resident cats, Lavender was fearless. She zoomed through the house and filled every corner with fun, while asserting herself in true kitten style.
She also met a resident dog and greeted him with nose taps and playful wrestling attempts.
Meanwhile, she continued her chaotic, adorable adventures in the kitchen while the dog watched on, probably enjoying the show.
After days of thriving in her foster home, something amazing happened. A loving family came to meet little Lavender.
And she knew exactly how to charm them. She instantly won over their hearts, especially that of a young boy. Lori shared:
“He has his room all set up for her, a beautiful sunroom full of cat trees and window perches.”
And just like that, Lavender found her forever family.
She was officially named Kellyn Lavender, and despite all her playful chaos, she’s sweet, funny, and brings endless laughter to her humans.
Lori couldn’t be happier knowing that Lavender now has a home and lives the life every kitty deserves.
