Matted Pups Who Hid In LA Bushes For Days Finally Shed Their Past, But Their Pain Lingers

They say that home is where the heart is, but for one scruffy little pup in Los Angeles County, home wasn’t a place – it was wherever her two best friends happened to be.
These three dogs had clearly been neglected, abandoned together in a strange neighborhood with no one to rely on but each other. Scared and disoriented, they stuck close, forming a tight bond through their shared struggle.
For several days, they hid under thick bushes, trying to stay out of sight while finding comfort and safety in each other. It was as if they knew their best shot at survival was staying together.

Then, fate stepped in…
One day, a woman happened to walk by and noticed a small, fluffy white face peeking out from the greenery.
Something about the dog’s expression: tired, curious, maybe even hopeful; made her stop in her tracks.
As she got closer, two more dogs slowly emerged from behind the bushes. It was instantly clear: these pups were scared, alone, and in desperate need of help.

Without hesitation, the woman moved toward them gently, hoping to coax them out. But two of the dogs were too frightened – they bolted and vanished from sight.
The third, a little dog later named Lemondrop, wanted to run too, but couldn’t. Her leg was badly injured, keeping her frozen in place.
Acting quickly, the kind-hearted woman scooped Lemondrop up and carried her home, then reached out for help. She contacted Logan’s Legacy 29, a rescue group known for stepping in when others can’t.
Founder Suzette Hall responded immediately and began coordinating a plan to find the other two dogs. One of her trusted volunteers, Mary Nakiso, was first on the scene to track their movements while she headed over. Suzette wrote on Facebook:
“They were hiding in the bushes. Then, they moved to hide under Mary’s car.”

Suzette arrived soon after. She found the two scared pups still tucked under the vehicle, and with an open crate nearby, she saw a small window of opportunity. Quietly and carefully, she made her move, as she explained:
“I was able to sneak up behind the little girl and get her into the crate… But the little boy went running for his life.”
With two of the three dogs now safe, Suzette and her team focused on the last – a nervous little pup they later named Kermit. They saw him dash into a nearby yard and immediately followed. As she wrote:
“The gate was locked, but I started yelling to the house because I knew someone was home. The kind neighbor came out and let me in, and I was able to get him safe into my arms. Poor baby had blood coming out of his mouth.”

Though terrified and injured, Kermit was finally safe. With all three dogs rescued, they were carefully loaded into the car and rushed to the vet. And as soon as they were reunited in the backseat, something shifted. Suzette said:
“I could hear them snoring. They knew they were safe.”

At the clinic, each dog received a full exam, treatment for their injuries, and their first warm baths in who knows how long. They also got much-needed haircuts – not just for comfort, but as a symbolic fresh start.
Tudy Bloom, the pup who’d hidden under Mary’s car, looked like a whole new dog after her makeover. Suzette shared in an update:
“This sweet girl was so matted and dirty. But oh my goodness, when we shaved away her past, it was all smiles and gratefulness.”

Unfortunately, Lemondrop’s injury was worse than anyone had hoped – her kneecap was shattered beyond repair.
Vets made the tough call to amputate her leg. Incredibly, Lemondrop bounced back quickly, hopping around with ease like nothing could slow her down.
Kermit’s injuries told their own painful story. He had lost his entire front row of teeth, likely from trauma or long-term neglect. He was started on antibiotics and pain meds, and within days, began to heal; inside and out.

With time, love, and proper care, all three dogs began to bloom. Their personalities came out, their spirits lifted, and they slowly transformed from frightened, forgotten strays into beloved companions-in-the-making.
Today, each one is safe and thriving in a loving foster home. While they’re still waiting for their forever families, their days of hiding under bushes are behind them.
They’re healing, surrounded by people who care deeply, and finally learning what it means to be loved. As Suzette wrote on Facebook:
“It’s another little miracle.”
